I'm American, so I'm not really sure how Canadian universities work. Will McGill be sending out financial aid packages that detail the costs of the 2008-2009 academic year, etc.?

No. The costs are already outlined on their website. If you apply for an entrance bursary, you'll be notified on minerva regarding your amount, if any, and that's about it.

Thank you!

My son (US citizen) was notified of an entrance bursary at the end of the summer prior to freshman year. Note that subsequent financial aid applications are not submitted online until August so it is not known if you will receive anything prior to the fall semester but you will get credit for the amount applied after the fact. We have found that it helps to contact the financial aid dept ('squeaky wheel' theory) to get in the loop because even after you complete the forms you need to complete a 'needs' interview with the financial aid dept. It's a tad more cumbersome process than the U.S. colleges, but they have been helpful to my non-Canadian student in terms of aid.
