I stilll haven't received mine yet!! Is there anyone who's in the same situation as me?
And when do you think I'll receive my package? I'm hoping for tomorrow..

If you check the FAQ for USC Financial Aid 2010 thread, there are still a few people who haven’t received theirs yet. It depends on when you sent in everything and whether you met the deadlines. When did you send in your documents?

i am too. but they asked me to send in a bunch more forms. then i realized i had a ton of mistakes on my profile so i sent them revisions. hopefully they’ll get back to me soon… before may 1st at least…

haven’t received mine yet. don’t expect anything, but emailed them to ask what is up.

i havent recieved mine yet either. But I applied late… Im hoping that they send it before may 1st…

i sent my fafsa and css on time but i sent my tax returns around 2 weeks ago. they said i should still get my FA package in the first week of april…hopefully i get it sometime this weeek.

I finally got through this morning and a financial aid counselor told me my daughter’s award was in the process of being packaged, but it would be a couple more days. She said it would be out by the middle of the month. So, now we just wait some more. Sigh.

Myself, I’ve already begun the detachment from USC. I honestly think my daughter has, as well. She never had high hopes for the FA award, anyway. My husband is probably the only one holding out for a miracle. We shall see!

I just called and got my package. She read it to me over the phone…

51k(5500 loans, 2500 works study) but my fafsa efc was 1281 w/ 2 kids in college hmm. idk, and we’re in 200k of home debt. but it’s okay!

i’m confused though. i need help with the Housing Contract Fee. It’s 800$ How in the HECK am I gonna come up with that? And when is it absolutely due by for priority housing?

is there any way that can be waived/deferred/etc? I really don’t have that money, we’d save up for plane ticket+etc. but i don’t know if I can do this. anyone have experience with this?? thanks!!

the FA people are always nice, so don’t feel afraid to call!

(by the way, just because your FA award isn’t online doesn’t mean that it’s not ready. mine still says it’s not ready on USConnect+Oasis

Do you mean you have to pay $51,000, or that you received $43,000 in grants??? (I am hoping it is the second one!)

no no my total package was 51k

although USC calculated my Pell Grant to be 3700
UF+Boston University calculated it at 4300
Hmm? Every 600$ makes a difference, lol.

Do you know anything about my other question though? That’s important :D

I’m presenting this to my parents tonight OH GOD

Congrats on the great package!!!

The difference in the Pell estimate won’t really make a difference, if it turns out to be $600 more, the USC grant would just be reduced $600, so it would be a wash.

The housing confirmation fee: They generally ask that it be paid by cash or credit card. There is something the colleges call “summer melt.” That is the term they use for students who say they will attend but then never show up when classes start. Getting some money up front for the enrollment deposit and housing confirmation helps them plan for how many students will actually attend and move up Spring admits where there is space. You should contact both financial aid and housing to tell them you need your financial aid in order to pay the fee and ask what they suggest. (Continuing students have the fee charged to their student account, so that may be an option. Then you could sign up for the payment plan or request a deferment.) Remember that every year 2,600+ freshmen get through this process, and many of them have the same situation with the housing fee - so don’t worry! (I remember the housing confirmation as being $400/semester in the past rather than $800 up front - I guess there has been a change?)
Just to clarify for you: The Stafford loans, work/study and summer earnings expectation are the *self-help portion *of your package. Even students with EFCs of 0 by the institutional method are expected to contribute to their own education with a self-help component. Some packages will not have work/study only because there is a limit to the total amount of Federal work/study USC can offer. With two undergraduates the family EFC is divided among the two students, but each will have a full self-help component.
This is so true! The financial aid office has always been helpful and flexible to our family, it is great to hear you had the same experience.

Glad to hear you got such a great package! When you present it to your parents, start with “They gave us $43,000 in free money! That’s more than $172,000 over four years!!!” That will put them in a good mood!

Congratulations, LMU10! That’s an awesome package. Best wishes to you and I’m sure your parents will be very pleased! :)****
