Financial Aid packages arriving?

Hi All-

My son is going to CSE and is in honors…and we are eagerly awaiting the final financial aid package!! When did they come out last year? We were lucky to get a 7k/yr merit scholarship (we are in state tuition) but want to know our final costs. Please post here if you get yours!!!

Have you been notified of all the merit scholarships he got yet? I haven’t checked mine as of today, but I’m a ND resident who will be in the honors college and the School of Liberal Arts and haven’t recieved any notices of scholarships or financial aid.

We filed about special medical expenses. When I talked to financial aid office, they said late Feb/early March.

I handed in paperwork in person — we are local — and was told “three weeks,” and that was last week.

@sapphicseraphic some get merit upon admission and others get it rolling. We’ve been told merit awards can continue to be released through March.

My son got his merit aid shortly after admission in the fall. I guess there’s nothing to do but be patient for a few more weeks!

Since you mention you received both - how are honors and merit notifications sent out? Both snail mail or email and a portal update? TIA

Honors notification will be on the portal followed by a snail mail. Merit aid notification is snail mail only. No e-mail alert for either.

No honors or merit here yet, but still hopeful. Our D was accepted to CSE right away when applying in late December, but nothing to follow yet. 1580 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA/4.8 weighted. All 5’s on AP’s including the most advanced math classes. 800 on Math SAT2. Tons of leadership EC. Course load all AP’s and honors. Fingers crossed!

We found our FA information online tonight through student center. A letter was in the communication center part.

My financial aid also popped up under aid in comm center along with a letter.

That was a total fluke to be aware of this. We must have checked right after it was posted!

It looks like my daughter’s is not in yet. (We did file for special medical expenses consideration just a little while ago, so that might be why.)

Eeeek, I can’t wait. Praying it isn’t too costly and we got some U Promise money. Also a letter sent to us said the CSE surcharge would not apply if you qualify for U Promise, which would be so awesome.

We got our aid and it was excellent! I guess we have a Golden Gopher in the house! MN state grant was huge, and the CSE surcharge was offset by an additional 2k, U promise was good as well. Yay!!!

@sassysprout congratulations! My D’s package did not come today … but after I posted, she did get a letter in the mail saying her special circumstances request has been approved and that they’ve adjusted her EFC down by $5k — which definitely puts us in grant aid territory. (And the person who wrote included a personalized note). We are very pleased, too, and can’t wait to see full package, which letter said should be coming soon. Also, leaning strongly toward UMN at this point!

Is everybody in this chat a freshman receiving their FA letters?

We are (rising freshman Fall 2019). My son’s letter is posted in the Com. Ctr. and @CAmom01 posted that they probably just came out this week. In the past, late Feb. has been about the correct timing for FA letters.

Okay thank you for the info. Since you have certain information about the timing of awards, do you by any chance know when transfers should be receiving their notification of FA letters? Btw congrats to everybody accepted!

@Ayeitsetho - it might vary by particular program, since different colleges of entry seem to have different priority admission dates for transfers. You might give them a call and ask that question.

I received a letter too, but it’s only a few thousand dollars worth of loans and work/study. Do I still have a chance at merit aid? I was strongly expecting a national scholarship.

For those of you who saw your FA on myU, did you have to click “agree” to Student Financial Obligations and Responsibilities eAgreement form before you saw it? My daughters app tracker doesnt list a decision but she showed me her myU now has a form she has to agree to in order to see anything behind it. It looks like it might be something that all students do annually? but not sure if that is a good sign she is admitted or just a fluke?
