I see that a couple people here have received their financial aid packages... Should all of them be coming out soon? I've got my list narrowed down to three schools, but UVa is the only one whose financial aid package I am still waiting on, so I would like to get that in so I can compare aid packages.

I also haven't received my admissions stuff in the mail yet, but I'm sure it'll come soon enough.

I’ve not gotten mine either, though I did get a small letter with a brochure in the mail today that just had some basic info about being admitted.

I got my package today and I’m very happy with it!

I think a lot of people will start receiving the packages soon (they stated that they’d be sent out a few weeks after the acceptance notification). Make sure you check your To Do List and ensure that everything has been sent to them.

They may require that you have your parents sign an additional document (I didn’t see it on my To Do List until the 26th) so once you have your parents fax that in to them, you should be able to get your aid package soon.

Also, they’ll email you when your package is ready.

So, it sounds like financial aid packages do not all come out at the same time. I was worried when my son said a classmate received his and my son still cannot access it on SIS. We too are comparing options. I am just glad he has some excellent choices. (I am keeping my fingers crossed that UVA is the winner:)).

Same story here. Waitlisted at 6 schools and we don’t have FA pkgs for UVA or Tufts. Ugh. Spring break starts this weekend and we don’t know if we should do all the traveling if the schools are unaffordable. My two older kids got all their FA pkgs with their decisions. This is really frustrating.

I sent my last piece of documentation on March 5-7, but they say that it was received on the 22nd, which makes absolutely no sense. They said that I will receive an email when it is ready, but I hope I can get it before May 1st.

^^^ When I was getting ready to send our tax returns to UVa back in February, I called to ask a question, and was told to fax the documents because the UVa mail center is like a city post office and it can take a couple of weeks for the fin aid office to get the mail that was sent to it!

^^ I asked my mom to fax the stuff in and we received out FA package a couple of weeks after we sent the fax! It was incredible! I would advise you guys to do the same!

My mom faxed her tax forms yesterday and i got my package today. It says preliminary, so for the final one could I get more aid and when does the final one come out?
Also, on my to do list is the additional info form. It siai it would be mailed to my house, so when can I expect it?

The financial aid folks are the best one to answer questions, but I think the packages are preliminary because the Board of Visitors doesn’t officially set the tuition rate until their meeting in June.

We did all our FA stuff by 2/15. Confirmed each thing as we went along. Called FA today and yes, they confirmed they received everything in Jan/Feb. But still no pkg. Explained my DD’s spring break starts this weekend and we need to travel this week - UVA basically said You’ll get it when you get it. Was told not to expect it tomorrow either. Probably some time next week. So I guess we’ll just go see schools that we know we can afford… Why did we rush to do FAFSA, Profile and taxes?

They said they’d have things posted by April 5th. I think they happen to be getting packages up more quickly, but I didn’t see them promote an earlier notification date anywhere, but perhaps I missed that?

Dean J, the April 5th date is what I remember too. I keep reminding myself (and an anxious husband and an anxious prospective student) that UVA actually let us know about acceptances sooner than expected, so it SEEMS like a long wait until we get the financial aid package. Maybe fin aid is letting people know as they have them ready, but expect to have them all by April 5th? I hope we do know by then:). We too are on spring break and would love compare our offers. Does anyone know how the aid from public schools (like UVA) compares with the aid from private LACs?

^^I’m no expert on financial aid, but UVA was ranked 2nd best on the Princeton Review for financial aid. I also think Private schools are a bit more strict when it comes to allocating their money.

I received my aid package from UVA and I was very satisfied. Moreover, I haven’t seen too many complaints on here about the aid anybody received from UVA.

Thanks, coolpg. My son has received excellent scholarship/aid packages from the private LACs where he was accepted, so I remain hopeful that the aid package from UVA will be on par with those.
