I know that Wooster planned on cutting back on FA this year. Can you tell me either on this thread, or in a PM if this school was affordable? I am particularly interested in families from upper middle class families outside the OH area, but all replies are very much appreciated. Thank you.

Put another way, did they come close to meeting your EFC?

I'm annoyed that no one has (as yet) responded to this. So let's wake up this thread. C'mon.

Thanks Hindoo! 109 views, but no responses yet. I'd also welcome and appreciate anyone who would like to help to even send a PM to help me out.
Someone can kick this off by letting us know if their package came close to meeting their efc, and if it was an affordable option.

are they cutting back on FinAid to everyone or incoming freshmen? I don't remember getting anything about it but we had a winter that included major illnesses for both DH and I, from Nov. til March.

now I'm scared.

We are an upper middle class family from IL and our daughter's FA package from Wooster did meet our EFC. In fact, it was a little better than the EFC by about 2K. It was a combination of merit aid, grant, subsidized loan and federal work study.

Mary13, first of all welcome! Thank you so much for signing in to answer my thread! I really appreciate it. Good luck to your D whether she chose to matriculate to Wooster or somewhere else. I guess their package was pretty good for your family.

Anyone else with a similar experience, or an award that gapped a lot?

OldinJersey, I have no idea. I just know what their strategic plan said about trying to cut back 5% of FA? They said something about not having to stick to this if they could not get the quality of student that they are looking for. When you get your package for next year, please let us know. I would appreciate it, and so would some lurkers out there. I hope that you and your H are doing better. Sorry to hear about your rough winter. Did your D continue to have a great first year?

Daughter got a substantial merit scholarship -- $17,000 -- which will remain in effect through all four years as long as she shows academic progress. The rest of the package closed the gap with our EFC. She was accepted at two other Ohio LAC's and got similar packages, though Wooster's merit scholarship was the largest.

We're happy.

ici, congratulations to you and your D! Thank you for the information.

i recieved my financial aid package april 29th. my family's EFC was 2,493. here's what my package is comprised of that i can remember at the moment. i'm at school and don't have it in front of me.

Wooster Grant - $31,180
Pell Grant - $2,281
SEOG Grant - $2,200
Subsidized Stafford Loan - $3,500
Federal Work Study - $1,000

I do remember that my total aid was $41,571. I know I'm likely forgeting something on my list. The total I will have to pay, not including my loan, is $849. Basically a full-ride. My mom and I were extremely happy. The total aid I got from Wittenberg was $32,431...almost 10k more than Wooster gave me, almost all in one grant alone, and 2k less in loans!

Wow, nice package! Congratulations!
