Financial aid packages

How much are your financial aid packages? I haven't gotten one yet and just wondering how generous the amounts are...I was told by the school that they don't offer full rides.

My family qualified for a “full ride.” Fordham only gave us about 10K total aid for the year, and about 5K was in loans. Somehow, they expected us to pay 45K a year. This is the reason I am no longer attending Fordham next year. When we called, they said they just ran out of funds.

Wow…I hope that doesn’t happen to me…did u apply late or something??
Did u get any scholarship money?

I got a full ride… I was called yesterday and offered a generous scholarship of 48k per year that’s renewable for all four years. Its the only reason I can go and I was actually fixing to enroll at a different school.

Woah that’s pretty awesome…u got all that in scholarships alone or was there grant money too? How’d u manage to get that much if u don’t mind me asking.

I got a very good scholarship… I think it was mostly because of my SAT’s. Based on my scores and those of some friends if you post your gpa and sats I might be able to give you a rough idea of what to expect  I didn’t qualify for aid, so I only got a merit award.

megan09, how exactly did you manage to pull additional money out of them at this late date? As I recall you were appealing your award back in March hoping they’d meet St. John’s offer. I thought that you were able to get additional money back then and that you were enrolling at Fordham by 5/1 with everyone else. So now, the end of June, you’re saying that you haven’t enrolled and yet they called you to offer you $48k because you were planning to enroll elsewhere? Is this an aid package or is it a scholarship? BTW, $48k, while very generous, is not quite a full ride of tuition, room & board. And full ride, to me, implies merit scholarship.

I’m just curious as to how this played out for you because I already started paying earlier in the month and I’m expecting that to be the case for many others as well. I’m not saying I don’t believe you. I’m just saying that I think there is more to the story then you have let on and it is probably important for others to know more of the details in helping them assess the likelihood of receiving that kind of money. Regardless, if the additional money means you can go to Fordham, I’m happy for you. Good luck! :)

Well here’s the whole story.

I did appeal the first financial aid package they gave me. They gave me an additional 4k in grant leaving me with about 33k total in loans/grants/work study. My dad was willing to pay about 8k on the 10 month plan and then I’d take out about a 13k loan.

The way I got the scholarship was a complete miracle to me. So I was stressing about how much debt I would have been in after graduation and I had started to look into my second choice school which was a state school. We sent in a request to withdraw my Fordham application and started to get things ready for the state school. The next morning I got a phone call from Fordham’s financial aid office offering me the generous scholarship of 48k a year, renewable for all four years. I was in shock and called my mom and checked online and, sure enough, my financial aid package had changed and I had scholarship money instead of grant money and my loans changed and no more work study. We later found out that it is a restricted, donor-based scholarship based on academics, financial need, work/community service, extracurriculars, and geographic location. Online it’s listed as the Robert Gannon scholarship. It’s about 17k a semester for tuition and about 4.5k a semester for room.

^^^Congratulations and thanks for sharing! It’s awesome for you! It seems that your potential withdrawal triggered a third look for additional scholarship money and you certainly hit the jackpot!

Amen Megan-- it’s meant to be. Very happy for you!

What made u eligiible for that scholarship? I still find it strange u would get something that big just for threatening to withdraw…congratulations tho!

^^^Just a guess but I imagine that scholarships are offered to plenty of people who don’t choose to enroll at Fordham. Perhaps upon review, they were able to give this one out because someone else didn’t take it to begin with. I’m sure megan09 is very deserving of this significant merit award.

Considering her SAT’s (1920 combo) I doubt it was a merit award. The merit awards are 100% based on SAT’s and GPA and that score is not high enough to earn a merit award. It was probably need based aid or loans. Regardless, congrats, you are very lucky!!
