Hi everyone,
I just got accepted into RPI as part of ED. I hope to major in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering. I’m concerned about what the financial aid packet will look like. Does anyone know when it is likely that they will send those out?
Also, does anyone participate in ROTC on campus? What is the detatchment like?
How about the swim teams? I’m considering trying to make the D3 women’s team…
Any other pieces of advice or insight on RPI is also welcome!
First of all, congrats! And you wouldn’t have been accepted ED if RPI couldn’t give you at least a half decent aid package. I’m not exactly sure what your situation is or how your grades are (you were accepted so I’ll assume good), but RPI usually gives pretty generous aid packages. I don’t know many people that didn’t get good packages, especially from ED. If it’s not enough by a good margin you can ask for more and see what happens. In terms of your major, I’m sure you already know RPI has a highly ranked Aero department. Lots of co-op opportunities are available for Aeros with dozens of big companies and there are lots of organizations like the flying club and rocket club/team or the society of women engineers. As for as D3 swimming, we have one of the best teams in the league and I’m not exactly sure what the process is to try out. ROTC is pretty common and I have a lot of friends doing it, and I’ve heard some pretty good things regarding that. Overall, I think you’re in a good spot and you’re gonna definitely enjoy your time at RPI. Best of luck and I hope all goes well :).

Hi! I was also just accepted ED for Aeronautical Engineering.
I have a 3.7/4.0 unweighted GPA, with all honors and AP courses. I’ve taken as many STEM courses as possible, even doing dual enrollment with the University of Colorado because my school didn’t offer a course I wanted to take. I got a 32 on the ACT, and I am the head of 2 clubs at my school. I volunteer as a math and science tutor at my local middle school, and have attended many science and engineering summer leadership programs.
Hi!
Congrats on your acceptance. I’m currently an rpi student and am on the men’s varsity swim team (the men and women compete separately, but we pretty much consider ourselves one whole team), and I was an ED as well when I applied.
As for the financial aid package I believe that it should come out some time in January after you put down your deposit. Don’t be worried about not getting any money, everybody I know has gotten decent financial aid.
I’m not personally an ROTC member, but several people on my floor who I am friends with are. I know the program is very demanding and requires a lot of very early mornings and tough training, however that definitely doesn’t mean you won’t have a social life or free time.
The swim team is also very demanding, as both teams are nationally ranked, however is so much fun. I would definitely recommend contacting our coach and talking as soon as possible. However, I’m not sure you would be able to do both ROTC and swim and be able to maintain a decent GPA. I can’t say for sure, but both are bit commitments and classes can be very difficult.
With all of that said, I hope I was able to help! RPI is a lot of fun and I have never once regretted my decision to come here. See ya next year!
I have a 3.8/4.0 GPA and have participated in a specialized program within my school for those interested in engineering. I have taken ~6 AP classes and some honors classes. My AP scores have been 5s so far, but I’m still in the process of taking a few this year. I’m involved with my school’s varsity swim team, and have held a job for the past two years. My ACT was a 34. I’ve also participated in two NASA summer programs.
Let me know if there’s anything else you wanted to know. Best of luck with your application!
