I received a mail few days ago about my financial aid.

Under expenses, they took out money for books too.
What if I were to buy textbooks on my own?
What happens to the textbook expense? Does that go to remaining aid if I don't buy textbooks with that money?

Also, when is the housing payments due? It says to make payments online with my credit/debit card but I haven't received my check for financial aid yet because I haven't signed up for Bruin Direct yet.

Conf123, all you have to know is how much grant and loan monies you are getting per quarter. All of the grant and loan monies will be forwarded to UCLA registrar where your tuition cost will be deducted against it. The remaining balance will be either deposited into your bruin account (if you have signed up for direct deposit) or mailed to you in the form of a check. You will have to write a check or pay online for Housing, since housing payments are not posted on BAR. You can log on Housing and check the payment due dates which differ depending on which payment plan you are under. Various expenses are included in e-fans as a way to estimate your cost of living but they are what they are, just estimates. So you can buy your books anyway you like and it won’t affect your financial aid award.
