Financial Aid Profile

hey guys,
omg my app's INNnnnnnnn!!!! haha I'm so happy.
but what happens now? Where's the financial aid / css profile? Do I get it somewhere on the Common App or is it from College Board or what?
And is there anything else we need to complete other than the financial aid profile?

Yale University Financial Aid > Prospective & Transfer Students > Early Action Application Guidelines for U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Canadian Residents

You better get on this. It's due Nov. 3rd (ideally Nov. 1st) and the CSS form is killer. For you parents, mostly.

oh shoot. okay. thanks.
is there any way of submitting these financial aid forms online? or do we all have to mail them by Nov 3?

The CSS Profile is completely online. The tax forms need to be mailed I think. I don't know if you can fax them or not. Your parents should have their tax forms and if you just use USPS Priority Mail (about $5) and you send it out tomorrow, it should get there by Nov. 3rd. Maybe the 4th or 5th.

The Profile does not say tax forms need to be submitted this year. If you submit a Profile early, Yale will request electronic transmission of 2008 tax forms beginning in February of 2009.

I believe their goal is to provide you with an estimate *of your FA based on the *estimate of your resources you provide them. Thus, as far as I can tell Yale only requires the Profile be completed and submitted (on line) by Nov. 3 for EA consideration.

In response to the above, the site that I linked to above lists 2007 tax returns under required forms (which I guess, makes them required?). But yeah, the Nov. 3rd deadline is only for EA. But they also require FAFSA when it goes online (after Jan. 1st) and after your parents file their 2008 tax returns.

Agree that FAFSA will be required, too (available Jan. 1). It would also appear that 2007 forms are also required (as stated by link you provide) even though the Profile site does not stipulate this.

The following is quoted from a CSS/Profile confirmation received in the last few days.

[quote]
Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) Requirement

The following college(s) or scholarship program(s) to which you are applying for financial aid asked the College Board, through its Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC), to collect additional documents, such as tax returns, from you and your family.

Your college(s) requiring IDOC

Yale University

IDOC processing will begin in early February 2009. At that time you will be emailed instructions on how and where to submit your tax documents through the College Board's IDOC service. Unless you are instructed otherwise, do not submit your 2008 tax documents directly to the colleges listed above. Wait for your IDOC notification email to arrive in February, and then follow the instructions for submitting your documents to the College Board at that time. (If you are applying to colleges in addition to those listed above, follow their instructions for submitting tax returns and other documents.)

Thank you,
The College Board

i did not realize how financial aid worked and i ended up marking "not applying for financial aid" on the commonapp. how do i tell them to change this, or is it too late?

Yeah, always read the college's instructions before the college board's.

As for joyogunx, I would contact the Financial Aid office or Admissions Office. Or both. And ask them about that.

oh crap, CSS.. if i get my dad to do that today, will i be all right?

wait...when did they ever say that if you wanted to apply for financial aid, you had to do it by the early deadline as well??????

Would it be okay if I express mailed the forms in?
Or do they not accept express mail?

i read up on yale's site, and it said that in order for you to get an estimate by decision time, you need to send in the CSS at the same time that you send in your app (or by the monday following.. the 3rd in this case)

ideally, it's good to get the CSS done earlier, but some forget (like me... but my dad's doing it tomorrow, and he's sending in his tax forms on monday, so it'll all be post-marked on or before the 3rd)

The deadline is Monday, Nov. 3 so all of you have some time left! Don't freak out too much. Fill out the online CSS Profile and mail/fax all of the other forms. All that matters is that it is POSTMARKED on the 3rd (like Peytoncline said) so it can actually get to Yale a little later.

I'm aiming for a November 3rd postmark.
The CSS thing is ridiculous. Do we really have to pay an extra $25?

The College Board is basically a black hole for your money. I don't even want to think about the amount of money I've given them what with SATs and APs and score-reporting and everything. One of the main reasons why I only decided to take the SATs once and to make them count (besides not wanting spend another 4 hours taking the most skewed national exam...pretty much ever) was so I didn't have to give them any more of my money.

It IS ridiculous. Does anyone else find it ironic that you have to PAY to fill out and submit financial AID forms? ugh :(

What if we don't want/need to get a financial aid estimate by Dec.? In that case, would it be OK to not fill out the forms right away?

is the PROFILE the same thing as the CSS? (stupid question? lol)

With all this estimation for 2008 on the CSS profile, are we supposed to resubmit the profile again in 2008 when we have definite numbers? Also, once you submit the profile is it the same for all schools or can I go back in and change the profile and send it to other schools come the new year?
