Hi - I have read every single post associated with financial aid at Santa Clara and still don't feel like I have a grasp on things.

I make just under $100,000/year gross. Can anyone tell me what that will shake out like when it comes to need-based financial aid? How much might be awarded as various types of loans? Work study? Need-based grants?

My son has a 3.97 GPA, is 10th in a class of about 525 students; 5 AP English, 4 AP Spanish, 3 AP Chem, will have 1 year of college level chem, advanced college Spanish, college English/freshman Comp; 4 years of sports all 3 seasons; summer day camp counselor for 6 years at YMCA; National Honor Society, 4 years orchestra, 9 years private violin study, volunteer work in a variety of contexts, including peer educator anti-racism training, summer homestay in Spain...32 ACT and will take 2 SAT subject tests in December...blahblahblah....

He wants to apply to SCU's engineering program - so I'm guessing they may consider him for merit aid as well, but it's hard to tell from the posts if he would qualify and if so, for what.

He loves it there - I don't want to get his hopes up, but the idea of him taking out $25,000 in loans every year for 4 years...

Is there any way - given the above - that they would offer him a package where the EFC would be about $20,000 and he wouldn't graduate with more than $10 - 15,000 in loans? Is that completely impossible to expect?

Any insights you could provide on this would be much appreciated....
