Financial Aid Question - Freaking Out, Please Help

I went to go look at my bruinbill which used to have a negative balance, but now it says that I owe a couple thousand dollars and my Cal Grant A isn't showing up. I'm basically freaking out because I need that Cal Grant!

I did just get a new eFan - could this be the reason? It just seems odd that they would take away what was on my old eFan and not put what was on my new one.

I emailed the bruinbill help email as well as the financial aid office and have yet to get a reply.

isn’t negative bad? as in you need to pay that amount?

If the total shows (-$XYZ) on your Bruinbill, then $XYZ will be credited to your Bruindirect account on Sept 19th. This is the amount left over after your financial aids/scholarship cover tuition and initial fees. UCLA’s trusting you to use the money for your housing and other educational expenses.

As you can imagine the Financial Aid Office is rather busy preparing for Fall Quarter, so I wish you the best!

If nothing has changed on your actual eFan (forget the Bruinbill for a second), I wouldn’t freak out about it. Last Winter I believe (maybe it was Spring) I, along with several others, were in the same situation. We had the -$xxxx amount of the refund but then it showed up as the $4,XXX amount that one typically pays per quarter. It ended up just being a little bug concerning people’s balance and within 2 days or so it was fixed. Now if you’re not being shown your Cal Grant on the eFan, then something is up. Currently, my BruinBill is showing the negative amount though, so I’m not sure.

Same thing was happening for me. Then I found out that I was enrolled for less than half-time (less than 6 units).

Does anybody know how it will affect my disbursement process?

I know I need at least 6 units for money to be disbursed, and I only have 4.

Disbursement will happen on 17th and I get to enroll in more classes on 18th of september.

Does anyone know what to do?

It shows up on my eFan, but it DOESN’T show up on my bruinbill, showing a positive balance rather than a negative one.

So this should clear itself up eventually? Or should I march into the financial aid office screaming bloody murder :p

Oh, @Estancia, I’m pretty sure you have to be enrolled in 12 units to be considered full time. You might want to consult your academic advisor or something, because I have no idea what to so about that problem. D:

I guess I will just have to call them and find out?

Yeah, I would definitely call. It’s always best to hear things straight from the horse’s mouth. :)

Oh, and thanks everyone for all of your help! I just checked my bruinbill and it somehow righted itself! :)
