I'm very satisfied with my aid: $0

/sarcasm.

I suppose I ought to contact them to tell them my mom got laid off in october. Economy ftl.

Possible Cal Grant A: $7,788
UCSD Grant: $2,578

Total Gift Aid: $10,366

I was hoping for more, but it's better than what Davis is offering me. :P

UCSD grant: $9,069

Total Gift Aid (along with cal grant and other federal aid): $16,720

Total Net Cost: $8,350

I'm very happy with this :D

Total Gift Aid = $16,720

Plus 8K tuition waiver for dependents of California disabled military.

My total gift aid is about $1,500.
My dad also just got laid off and now works freelance about 1-2 hours a day... hopefully they'll give us more aid.

Okay, now I just feel mean. Sorry.

So you pretty much have a full ride?

I have a question about Cal Grant. I just logged into my account and it says that if I chose Cal Grant A I'll receive about $7,780, and if I chose Cal Grant B I'll receive about $1,551. However, they said that Cal Grant B would be a better choice since it will increase dramatically in my second year of college. Which do I choose?? Choosing Cal Grant A is really tempting b/c that'll mean I'll only have to pay about $2k my freshman year, but the Cal Grant says that B is better. Help?

@Mercurial: i'm in a similar situation as yours too. $0 in fin. aid plus the work situation.darn economy. call the office and u have to fill out a form to appeal for fin. aid. and your mom/parent needs to send in requested docs with tax returns , etc, plus a letter explaining the situation. so yeaaa, just call them up :]

xlemonpie, my friends mom made that call today and was only told that she could still amend her fafsa to reflect changed circumstances and have the aid reviewed. It sounds like you found a more helpful person on the line.

konakai27, Yes, I got a great deal but I didn't mean it gloatingly, I'm just so relieved that my parents won't be living on ramen noodles which they would have offered to do.

Total Granted Aid: $16,720

:D I feel happy.

my EFC was 1014, yet I only get 7800 from Cal grant

California budget crisis jeopardizes 20,000 jobs - CNN.com
The state of california can't afford to help pay for everyone's education anymore.

Comp Sci Guy: I didn't think you were gloating, I just was surprised that they gave free rides. I'm also worried about my situation because my parents made enough to have a high EFC of $14,400 however there is no way we can afford it. My dad used to make $400 a day, now he makes anywhere from $20 to $40, so we're going to use that in our appeal.

Well, to be fair..UCSD didn't give a free ride in the sense that my aid was the same as several people on this thread and my father happened to have a disabled vet benefit that works at any UC or CSU. But the school doesn't administer the tuition waiver program, that's the VA. So in a sense it's like a private scholarship that you might apply for independent of the university like the ones on fastweb.

@comp sci guy: yupp, we updated the FAFSA and then filled out the form. you should be able to find the appropriate form here: Financial Aid: How to File a Special Circumstances/ Loss of Income Appeal. good luck!

They need me to submit the Verification Worksheet and my parents tax form. does anyone same?

comp sci guy: oh, I see. I guess I better start working on scholarships.

westin:
thats normal.
I am a current student and I had to do that last year and this year.
