So, I got the Dean's Scholarship for $20k a year, but that got me wondering about the following situation:
Say my EFC is $15k. Northeastern tuition & board is about $55k, so with the scholarship that goes down to $35k a year. For need-based (assuming 100% is provided), would I receive the leftover $20k, or the $40k I'd receive as if I didn't have the scholarship?
Only reason I wonder is because, if the latter is the case, then I essentially get a full-ride.

Your “leftover need” is the cost of attendance minus EFC minus scholarships. The school reports what scholarships you received.

Also keep in mind that just because your leftover need is 20k, doesn’t mean that you’ll receive 20k. Rarely does anyone receive any real “grant” for need here. Typically need is filled using loans. My leftover need my first year was around that, but I only received around 10k in federal student loans. It was the maximum amount awarded at that time.

To get anything more than that, you have to take out special federal loans (like Perkins, if you’re elligble), your parents take out federal loans (Parent PLUS), or you take out private loans from a bank or dealer.

(This is a different concept than in grad school, where you can get a Graduate PLUS loan for the entire amount of your leftover need.)

Okay, thank you! Additionally, I noticed that the CSS for EA was due earlier this month, which I never sent in. Am I screwed for aid, or can I send it in by the FAFSA deadline and be okay?
