I received an e-mail from a school requesting more information than what was provided in the financial aid application. The school is one of my child's top choices so I was wondering if I can read anything into this request. I am thinking that maybe they wouldn't ask for additional information if he isn't in at least a "likely" pile of applications. Maybe I am over thinking this.... Probably.

It’s hard to say. At this point in time there’s a lull for the AO staff (the ones not reading applications) in between assembling application folders and assembling offer packages. It’s possible that they’re scanning through all the FA applications to save time later. Or it may be as you’re wondering.

Ironmom1: It may be a sign, but it may not be. We rec’d similar inquiries from several schools, but only one of them ultimately made an offer. At the time I assumed we were bubble candidates who ended up needing more than what they wanted to offer.

Some schools have separate people who work on FA, so it could mean anything. Clearly they want more information, but unknown if it is related to admissions.

My son who is a senior at BS is also getting emails from college financial aid offices requesting additional information. I would not assume it means anything more than the financial aid representatives ensuring that their paperwork is complete.

Some of these schools are not need blind in admissions so it could also mean some consideration there can be brewing.

As for college, most of them will ask for certain standard info when needed for all students , but if it is info specific to your app, they are likely working on your student’s package and they do that most of the time only when the student is accepted or at schools that are not need blind when working on the decision and pin pointing the need amounts to make it.
