I know I sent in all of my pertinent documents well over a month ago, weeks before the deadline. I did not receive any financial aid notice whatsoever. I did, however, get the National Merit 30K. My financial aid was less than that.
My actual question:
Does Northeastern take away financial aid if they award more than that in merit aid?

Yes - I imagine they deduct from need based awards when merit is in place because in situations where a student demonstrates both high need and is an incredibly qualified applicant, exhausting both potential merit as well as need based aid would mean that the student would be awarded well over the cost of attendance of the school.

If without the merit award you were anticipating 30k or less in need based aid, you’d more than likely lose that once they gave you the NM sum. Merit aid is both addressing your demonstrated need as well as commending you/distinguishing you based on your academic (or other) talent/skill.

I think you would still keep any Pell/SEOG Grants.
