Ok so a couple days ago I got a phone call and an email from the Assistant Financial Aid Director at Johns Hopkins, telling me to go please finish the Financial Aid (I forgot one form). It just got me thinking since Johns Hopkins is need blind why would they go out their way to personally contact me about financial aid if they don’t plan on utilizing the information. Idk I was just curious and wanted to get some outside opinions if I’m overthinking or not. P.S. Johns Hopkins releases decisions 3/16, two weeks from now.
You’re overthinking it. They do plan on utilizing the information. Financial aid offers are generally prepared for all applicants, at least to up to a certain point. The folks in the financial aid office have no idea who will be admitted, denied or deferred.
Need blind is an admissions term. It means the admissions folks don’t consider your financial need when they are reviewing your financial aid application.
The financial aid office contacted you because IF you get accepted, they need all the required submissions to prepare a package for you. The financial aid office was giving you a heads up on a missing document…for financial aid purposes. This has nothing to do with admissions.
The financial aid and admissions offices work separately at need blind schools.
@BelknapPoint @thumper1 I see what you guys mean, but maybe there is a slight chance admissions and financial aid contact each other to some degree? So far I got 2 personal emails from Cornell and Johns Hopkins about financial aid, and I got into both, or it could just be coincidental I guess who knows.
There are certainly others got document requests and not admitted. The FA just need to have all the information ready to process the financial aid package once admission is offered. Most of the schools would not have their admission list ready till near the deadline for notice. Not likely to notify the FA weeks ahead to collect information specifically for the to be admitted students.
