Financial aid question

I know that a student can use outside scholarships to cover work study and summer earnings. If a student does this but still wants to work to offset the family contribution, how much can they work before it affects the Princeton grant?

I know for Yale, for example, $3,000 is protected. After whatever Princeton's limit is, what is the percentage of student income that will be used to replace the Princeton grant?

Thanks! :)

I'm not 100%, but I do know of a person who received so much outside aid it went to their personal items money. They ended up using the scholarship to buy a computer/printer from the school.
