Financial Aid questions

I emailed the financial aid office and will call in a few days if I don't get a response, but I figure I'd post here in case anyone has an idea =)

It seems like my grants, scholarships, and federal loans should be more than enough to cover my tuition. Right now my bursar account says:
Due Date 08/10/2008
Previous Balance 0.00
Minimum Due 4,516.23 CR
Total Due 4,516.23 CR

Total Charges and Adjustments: 4,625.77
Total Payments and Financial Aid: 1,302.00 CR
Total Anticipated Aid: 7,840.00 CR

So, it seems like I have a surplus, unless there are more charges coming. This includes: activity fee, technology fee, student health fee, transportation fee, and resident undergraduate fees. I'm not living on campus and don't have a meal plan, so I can't imagine what else would be showing up later.

So, I was wondering if there is any way to get this excess money to cover my housing and food when I'm living off campus? Or at least my books? I mean, I'm sure they aren't going to just cut me a check with the extra money, right?

thanks!

sunny--It's been many, many years since I received excess financial aid from IUB, but cutting me a check for the excess is exactly what they did when I lived off campus. They realized that when you live off campus you still need to pay for housing and meals. I hope someone can give you an answer from a more recent experience.

At my daughter's school they do cut her a check for the excess though it is usually the 2nd month of school after all charges have been processed (September in her case). She will use the money to pay her rent etc.

You need to check with the school to see how they handle the excess as some schools may do it differently (there was a discussion a long time ago and I think a couple of people said they did not get the excess refunded till the end of the semester).

They give you a check on August 28th. It is either directly deposited to your bank account if you have it on file, or you get it sent to your parent's address at home.
