financial aid reduction

so, i got my award status earlier today, albeit a little late, and i was pretty curious to see how the economy would affect it compared to last year. not surprisingly, it did in fact go down.

i received approximately 19000 in gift aid last year which was pretty nice, but naturally, dropped pretty dramatically down to 16000 sophomore year. this of course, with the efc at 0 for both years. obviously a shot at the gut, but money comes and goes or something like that.

i was wondering if anybody else saw a dramatic reduction this year to go along with the economic recession?

previous year efc was 16000
i got 650
now efc is 1300
got 600
not that much but every little bit helps

What??
My net cost for attending is $8390. Isn’t that a little bit high considering that my family is low income or is that just an estimate?

Its an estimate but that is what you should expect.

My EFC is 0 and only got ~18000 in gift aid

i got about 3k less this year, lame…
plus my parents haven’t been able to help me out much lately, so ive almost cleared out my checking and will have cleaned out my savings by winter quarter.

Arnold gimmie som money nao!!!

My gift aid, with an EFC same as yours, should’ve been higher then…

Did you get chancellor’s? Cuz without that my gift aid would be 13000 only

plus chancellor’s it’s 18000, so I can’t complain

although, I noticed that the cost of attending on UCR now is higher than on collegeboard.com, by about 1000 dollars

I got in late so I didnt have the chance to get chancellors :/

plus the housing is not 10k it about 12

I figured out my total costs somewhere on the Facebook group

I think with Flex max and east lo double, I got like 21400, assuming that I would spend 1200 dollars total on textbooks through the year

without textbooks is 20200

[UCR Schedule of Fees and Tuition](<a href=“Select a Term”>Select a Term)

tuition/fees costs,

housing

Um… is calgrants factored into any of your guys’ gift aid/fin. aid??

yeah, cal grant is in there

Is there anyone that has too much financial aid…?

I got around 23,500 aid

with a estimate cost of textbooks, plus specific costs of tuition, housing, meal plan, I have about

2000 dollars extra

but about 4500 of my aid is loans… so I have to pay those back anyways

i wish i had surplus sigh

idk what to do with it though…

I was thinking about using it for the laptop but I already saved up money for that

lucky I have to live in a 200 dollar budget.

Wow. my financial aid got reduced today because i passed too many AP tests and will have over 45 units after 1st quarter. Lost 500$

thats cause your a sophomore now

I know… but it still sucks :(

I didn’t know they would do that…

is that customary for everyone who gets over 45 units after first quarter?
