Financial aid request before acceptance to university

Has anyone received request for additional financial aid information prior to receiving an acceptance letter from the same university?

It can happen. The FA office works independently of admissions.

I am curious about this as well. Does a request for more info at this point indicate that the school is putting together a package for an accepted student (or is seriously considering him) or is it just the financial aid dept doing its due diligence on each applicant? I lean toward the latter but I keep thinking that it doesn’t make sense for a financial aid dept to waste time and resources on a student it is not going to accept…at this fairly late date.

I got a request for additional info from my son’s ED school last year just a few days before the decisions were to be released. The information requested was a very minor “cross your t’s and dot your i’s” kind of thing that would have made no difference in the amount of his FA reward and the request seemed very urgent…an email immediately followed by a phone call from them asking that the information be both faxed and fedex’ed immediately. I took this as a very good sign but kiddo was not accepted, deferred or even waitlisted.

So, from my very limited experience, it means nothing. The FA and admissions processes really are independent if the school says that they are.

Thank you for the input Otter, though sorry about your son’s experience.
