Financial Aid/Scholarships

When does this information arrive?! Anyone in southern California get anything today?

I received an email today informing me that I was awarded the Regent’s Scholarship. I’m not sure if they sent out any other financial aid emails other than those.

My friend got that email too. I guess I didn’t get it  Sad

hi guys!
i live in a dorm with the girl regent scholars… and there are not very man in my class.
so don’t fret if you didn’t get it!

My D got her acceptance letter a couple of days ago and I was told that financial aid would come later. I just do not want to keep waiting.

She has acceptances from UCSD, USD (60% tuition scholarship), SLO, Chapman (70% waiver tuition scholarship). So without any financial aid to Pepperdine it would be hard to justify attending there … even though it is a great school. (BTW - if there is another thread or forum to post the discussion of how to make the decision between the schools above - please lmk)

What are the stats (if you do not mind me asking) for those that got financial aid ?

GPA (W/UW)
SAT
ACT
EC

If my son has not received an email regarding merit scholarship, does that mean he is not being offered one? Who has received these emails? The financial aid office told me the admissions office sends those out, but when I called the admissions office yesterday, they were very vague and said we’d receive something on or before April 1. She said SOME emails went out.

Hi~
The Admissions Department makes Admissions decisions. If you (or your child) is offered admission (Congrats!) they send your file over to the Financial Aid office who looks at your Fafsa as well as your EFC and the childs overall GPA/SAT’s and rank in terms of high school as well as their rank in terms of Pepperdine’s applicant pool.

The Regent Scholarship recipients are notified by email and snail mail. If your student did not receive the Regents Scholarship (highly selective @ $26,000 per year for 4 years) then do not give up hope! They still offer very generous Scholarships and Grants based on the applicant. My daughter was NOT a Regent Scholar but was still offered Scholarships and Grants which totalled over $28,500 per year!
Pepperdine is an amazing University!
Good Luck to all! :)

BTW…we received the financial aid letter by email around April 1st.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks Momto4, that does help. We have visited the school twice and it’s my son’s #1 choice, but I must admit the people fielding phone calls have not been very helpful the few times that I have called.
So glad to hear that you daughter is happy there. Soon, we will know if my son will be able to afford attending there. Something in the mid 20K’s would make it feasible. On our previous visits, that was the range of scholarship that they told me that we could expect.

Got the email and your financial aid package is online… Prob not do-able for us, which is disappointing…

jcold9- i also got ridiculously low financial aid! can easily cross pepperdine off the potential schools list :(

Got the financial aid offer. Basically entirely loans. I have decently high stats, just got into Stanford and am a Presidential Scholar at USC. Not sure what Pepperdine’s game is here, but i won’t be attending for sure.

agreed, i was not impressed by the $50,000 in loans they were offering me- what a great deal! (sarcasm)

A lot of grants/scholarships, a lot of loans. I’m not positive on accepting anyway, so I’m just not sure I can justify the $20k in loans against other schools who have given me more. That’s not to say anything bad about Pepperdine because I think their offer is very generous. I also received a call about a week ago saying I can make an appeal if I am not happy with my offer. Overall I’m impressed with the school’s student relations, I just don’t know if Pepperdine is what I’m looking for.

I’m going to wait until I turn in the verification n stuff they ask for but if what I saw doesn’t change, pepperdine is a NO. I don’t know what kind of drugs they are taking if they think I’m going to take out $40,000 in loan money when I was offered scholarships for schools in New York, California isn’t that important to me

so was this a joke when they recommend my parents borrowing $48k a year for my ass?

What a huge disappointment. Tiny scholarship, and all loans in our pkg. Momof4, what kind of stats did your daughter have that got here such a great pkg last year? I’m just curious. My son’s stats are very good I thought. :-(

Sorry to hear about the disappointments. From what I’ve been offered, I will definitely be going to Pepp in the fall.

55,000 in loans??!! My son will not be attending Pepperdine. MY daughter (older) goes to USC and I pay less than half of that. USC is very generous with grants. I did read on the bottom of financial aid page that they may not be done yet. i hope they are not done yet because my son does want to go there.

Cali4life, can I ask what your stats are? My son’s are:

Sure.

SAT: 1870
