Does anybody have an idea how the financial aid situation for 2011 might be?

I am thinking of making another try next year, just not sure yet. I have lots of friends who were not so lucky this year, many of them had the statistics for good scholarships, but received only a little, or even got rejected because of their financial need.

I know that last year was pretty bad, what do you think it will look like next year? Worse than this, better, bearing in mind the financial crisis the whole world is going through.

When I was applying to college, before the international financial crisis, international students were facing the same dilemmas: there was little financial aid, the aid was ultra-competitive and there were many unexpected outcomes. Since I did not observe significant changes in the availability of aid in recent years, I have no reason to believe that it will change in between now and next year.

That does not mean that your individual changes may not improve. You have an extra year to position yourself as a more competitive applicant and rethink your application strategy, including the colleges you are applying to.
