Financial Aid situation sucks

So I got into Howard University in December. Months later I've made my decision and I want to go there in the fall.

The only problem is, is that my whole financial aid situation is screwed up. I haven't sent my enrollment fee yet, I mean I will because it's due on Friday. I did my fafsa like two months ago and still there's a problem with my fafsa matchng up with my parents tax return.

It's so frustrating but if i send my enrollment fee, and my financial aid situation doesn't get straigthened till like june or july does anyone know if I will still be allowed to go there?

If it's not straightened out at all, can i get financial help outside of school? I know there's bank that give student loans.

If your just talking about the FAFSA part of financial aid I had a mistake on it that I didnt catch until July and was still able to correct it and got the financial aid no problem. I think you should be fine but try contacting the FAFSA people through their website, they respond fairly quickly and can answer your question.

Have your parents done their tax return? I don’t understand why there would be a problem matching up FAFSA and the tax information. Once the tax returns are finalized you are supposed to correct FAFSA to accurately reflect the tax returns.

If they have not filed yet then you do have a problem. You will not get any federal aid until they do so.

I am pretty sure you will still be able to go there, you should just send the enrollment fee anyways.

Yes, you could enroll, but how on earth do you expect to pay for it in the first place? You need to call the financial aid office at Howard TODAY. Ask them what else they need from you. You also need to talk with your parents. How much money do they really have available to pay for your education? How much are they willing to have you take out in loans? Can they co-sign for any private loans, or do you have to take all of the loans yourself? Read through everything at [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org) and have them read this also.

If you are waiting for some paperwork before you make a final decision about Howard vs. some other school, you can ask Howard for an extension of the reply-by date. Students who are waiting for financial aid often have to do this. You won’t be the only one to ask Howard this year.

I went to Howard today and I found out tha everything is ok. It was the work of God seriously. I found out a whole bunch of stuff too but everything is fine. I paid my enrollment fee and I’m so excited. Thanks for all the advice guys.

So glad to hear that it worked out for you. Good for you for going to see them & finding out what’s what. Beats worrying!
