Does anyone know when Cal Poly SLO notifies their admits about financial aid? Like end of march or beginning of april? Also do they offer full rides?

I spoke with financial aid a few weeks ago; they said awards would go out the first week of April.

Thanks for the information!

Yeah just spoke with the office of financial aid today as well. She said between April 1st and April 6th or something close to that.

I just got my financial aid.

I saw my son’s financial aid award posted earlier. It looks like we’ll get only Direct Parent Plus loan and Stafford Unsubsidized loan. Do you think there might be a chance for other department scholarship or merit aid that will come later? We have been hoping to get some scholarship or merit aid to help with the costs. I thought it said under his major website, new students are to get $1000 scholarship for majoring in Env Protection and Management Resources, but we do not see any scholarship listed in the financial aid award.
He is an IB student, ACT 31, GPA UW 3.72, W 4.56.

@Ibaker1 Unfortunately, sounds like the same aid my son has been offered. My understanding is that the financial aid office has a list of available scholarships that pertain to specific majors. Maybe worth a phone call or email?

That was my question too; I know it says that incoming freshman are considered for scholarships based on their admission application, but I was wondering if the recipients have already been notified. I read somewhere that notifications will be by email in spring and summer, but I wasn’t clear if that was for incoming students or continuing students.

Yes, I read the same thing, and not clear when they would notify the incoming freshman about scholarships either.
I would hope they would offer some scholarships/merit aid to some freshman. I emailed the financial aid office about any possible department scholarship for my son, but haven’t heard back yet.

@Ibaker1 I hope you get a helpful response soon! Fingers are crossed for you and your son. Please let us know what more you find out once you hear back.

I just wanted to chime in here. I received my financial aid offer already and was awarded a department scholarship. (which I am very grateful for!) It was just listed along with my other grants and loan offers. I’m not sure if they award more scholarships later, you might want to ask an admissions person about that.

@dreamingincali what department (if you don’t mind sharing)?

I received my financial aid package and there were no added scholarships or grants from the school. Just loan options. Although my load amount is 12k, it’s a bit odd considering that a friend of mine will only be needing 5k in loans for UC Davis. Just thought I’d chime in.

I got a response from the financial aid office earlier:

Approximately 10% of our students are awarded scholarships, we do not have enough donors giving large amounts of money to award a higher
percentage of students.

All freshman scholarships have been awarded at this time.

Thank you,
Cal Poly Financial Aid office

Too bad! We were hoping we would get a little bit of something besides loans.

@lbaker1 thank you for posting their response :)

@ibaker1 It’s good they got back to you pretty quickly. I’m sorry it wasn’t better news. Thanks for sharing the info with us.

@caligirl14 I’m an RPTA major, which is part of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences

Hi Everyone. I posted the following link to “CC - Financial Aid & Scholarships”. Thought I’d post it here for you guys too. It’s quite interesting.

Oops… Sorry about that! These days I’m pretty sure I’d lose my head if it wasn’t attached!
