umm...i dont know why but for the aid letter that came with my likely letter, it said that i have to pay $2600 as a student contribution? does any other student that doesnt make any money have this on their financial aid?

this doesnt make sense b/c my parent contribution is 0 [they made 38k last year]

could this be a typo?

Could that $2600 possibly be just that - student contribution; how much you pay through workstudy and maybe a small amount of loans?

I believe everyone has that in their financial aid package. That's what the office told me when I went last year during AW.

thx...can anyone else confirm this? I'm really stunned that i actually got in much less get a likely letter.

It said my total estimated resources was $5300 (student contribution was $1,700), even though my EFC was $2500.

Remember that this is only an estimate and is only based on your CSS profile, so once Stanford receives all of the FAFSA info it should adjust.

don quijote: so your student contribution is $2800? (do u work or anything?)

on mine it said:

parent contribution: 0
student contribution: 2600

total estimated rescource: 2600

I'm not complaining by any means...2600 isnt alot for an education at stanford. Just wondering why my expected student contribution is like that even though i don't work or have any assets

Even with an EFC of $0, Stanford and most other schools still expect the student to work in order to contribute to their own education. The student contribution will generally be from income they expect you to earn at a work-study job and employment during the summer. Remember, Cost of Attendance includes not only tuition, room, and board but also books, personal expenses (spending money) and travel. So, your student contribution may or may not go towards tuition, room and board. It may represent personal expenses and travel costs. You will have to wait until you get the final award letter to know for sure but probably room, board, tuition will be covered by stanford grant, pell, etc.

Yeah...my expected student contribution is $1,700.

Stanford is very generous in finaid though, I got ~$25,000, more than I expected.
