Can you guys post what you got in your financial aid packet?

Briefly state your grant/scholarships and loans.. along with your EFC..

Carnegie Mellon's tuition is so expensive that even with the financial aid..

I still end up borrowing 37K a year...

Since I didnt get a better scholarship or grants from anywhere else since all the colleges I applied to were states school, I can't compare with other aids in order to get more money from Carnegie...

Can you tell me ways to get more aids especially grants and scholarships from Carnegie?

Also, can the university endowed scholarship and CMU undergrad grant be taken away if you do poorly in school or your EFC goes down? And are these guaranteed all four years? Can these increase or decrease?

My d had both scholarship and grant go away when her efc went up. I do not know how to get more, there may be more to apply for in the individual colleges once you are there but keep in mind that the level of student there is very high so that is what you are competing against.

Wait, if you need to pay $10K, doesn't that make your EFC $10K?

The difference is this--EFC is usually calculated from some random formulas judging how much your family can reasonably be expected to pay for your college education; the $10K that metaldragon2400 is talking about is, instead, unmet need.

And yeah, I got my financial aid letter...$19,575 grant, $2,800 work study, $9,500 loans, $9,135 EFC, and $11,670 unmet need. Kind of a downer; CMU was my first choice, but my parents told me point-blank that we simply can't pull off paying the extra unmet need, so I'm heading to one of my back-ups next year. Ah well.

Federal SEOG 3,000.00 Y
University Endowed Scholarship 1,500.00 Y
Estimated Pell Grant 4,731.00 Y
Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Grant 19,644.00 Y
Estimated Federal Perkins Loan 2,000.00 Y
Suggested Subsidized Federal 3,500.00 Y
Stafford Loan
Recommended Alternative Loan 4,000.00 Y
Federal Work-Study 2,800.00 N

Lol yeah... my dad is the only one who works and he makes $15k a year. I don't know how I'll even be able to get a job to meet that $10k unmet aid if I have to do work study also.

^That's a great offer. Essentially all you got to do is to pay for R & B which is essentially the EFC. Your sisters will have no bearing on your FA because no matter where you attend, the affect of your sisters will have the same result.
