Financial Aid to NYU Abu Dhabi

Hi all,

I'm interested in attending NYU Abu Dhabi. I currently attend a small international school, and it seems to me that NYU Abu Dhabi would be a good extension of that.

However, my ability to pay for colleges is extremely limited. My (single) mother makes about $10k a year, and hence can barely contribute anything. However, she did inherit about $300k, which is earmarked for retirement (she's almost 60).

I know that NYU is notorious for poor financial aid, with significant loans. Does this extend to the Abu Dhabi campus, or do I stand a decent chance at good aid? I don't have any interest in taking on huge debt for university.

Thanks. Answers from current students are particularly appreciated.

I am an admitted student on a full ride, entering this fall.

NYUAD is definitely a good extension to international schools! I came from a public school, so I was surprised at how many international schoolstudents applied/were admitted…

NYUAD aid is completely independent of NYU-NY. NYUNY does not contribute a single dime to NYUAD - we are funded by the Abu Dhabi government.

There are no loans given to students - it’s either aid or nothing. They do, however, say that no student will have to take on debt - so I am pretty sure you will also qualify for a full ride. I can’t say for sure, obviously, but they are more interested in income than assets, especially if you have earmarked it away for retirement. Also, NYUAD financial aid applies to study abroads too, so if you do choose to spend semesters at NYU-NY you will get the exact same aid as you do there, including a small spending allowance. (This, I think, is why NYU students stereotypically hate us).

Thanks for all the info, KiwiKid. I’m glad that the finances would probably work out… I’ll definitely apply.
