Financial Aid to study in China?

If I am a US high school student looking to attend a Chinese University, where can I find out about available financial aid (grants, scholarships etc). I am looking to complete all my education overseas, so it would be long term, does anyone have any resources or an idea as to whom I'd have to talk to? And I am seeking to obtain a Bachelors in Medicine.

Are you a citizen of US or China?
If you’re eligible for Federal student aid, see [International Schools | Federal Student Aid](http://studentaid.ed.gov/prepare-for-college/choosing-schools/types/international)

I am a US citizen, and from Hispanic heritage.

What is a Bachelor in Medicine?

The equivalent of an MD, in foreign countries (Europe, Asia etc.)

Are you fluent in Chinese? If not, will your classes be in English?

There isn’t much money availabe for you to study in another country. Most aid is just federal aid (which isn’t much at all) or from the colleges.

For federal aid, all you would be eligible for is direct student loans. Federal grants and campus based programs (SEOG, WS, Perkins) are not available for International schools.

Te max direct loan for a freshman is $5500.

Why are you looking at abroad schools? Are you thinking that they’ll be cheaper?

How much would the total cost be per year…tuition, room, board, books, personal expenses, travel to China, etc?

Are you doing this to get an MD quicker?

If you’re not fluent (speaking, reading, writing) in Chinese, how are you going to be able to do well? Are the textbooks in English or Chinese? Are classes taught in Chinese?

How much will your family pay?

If your family will not pay, then this isn’t going to work. You’re not going to be able to get the visa to go there if you can’t show that you have full support. Other countries (and the US) do not want foreign students coming who aren’t funded because they don’t want foreign students becoming a financial burden in their country.

As Swimcat mentioned, the only federal aid you’ll get is a $5,500 loan. That’s obviously not enough.

Other scholarships are awarded by the colleges. You might win a few tiny “one year only” scholarships, but not enough to pay for college.
