Financial Aid/Transferring Help

So BU gave me about 22k in grants and another 9k in federal loans and work study. Tuition should be around 50k and housing and boarding should be another 10k. My parents’ EFC is 3k so I’m kind of screwed even though BU is my top priority at the moment. However, I’m willing to work (in addition to work study) throughout all four years (should pull in 20k/year).

So here are my questions:

 1. If I do my own tax returns starting sophomore year, will I get more financial aid?
 2. If I get straight A’s and accomplish some spectacular things my freshman year is there a chance that I may transfer out to a better college? Would my high school grades be considered?

Do not suggest that I take the community college route.

You would have to emancipate yourself completely from your parents in order for their info not to be considered. This is a very difficult thing to do. It also means you will have no health insurance unless you buy it on your own.

Tuition alone isn’t 50k…it’s about 37k. With room and board, BU all together is about 50k.

You definitely have a shot at transferring if you do well. Your high school grades will be considered.
