My son will be attending as a freshman at Univ. South Carolina in the Fall, 2011. When are out of state residents (NJ) notified as to financial aid awards and scholarship (general scholarship) awards?
Also, how hard is it to make competitive team tennis (club tennis)

I’m in NJ as well and I heard about a scholarship 2 weeks ago and got a letter about not qualifying for financial aid yesterday.

nothing on their website yet, hopefully, we will get a letter this week. We definitely should qualify for financial aid.

My info didn’t show up on the website for awhile (maybe a week) after I got my letter, so I would guess your letter would come first.

Well I’ve been checking my VIP account pretty reguarly. They said that they won’t begin posting Financial Award notices until April 1.

But my financial aid section already has my LIFE Scholarship and Thornwell Scholarship. So I’d just keep checking VIP regularly if I were you. I check about twice a day and they say they still haven’t received my FAFSA (only turned it in a couple of days ago though because my father didn’t give me the info until then. =/)

I recieved my scholarship letter almost three weeks ago. Scholars weekend begins this Saturday, and my scholarship letter had an invitation to that with it, and I’m pretty sure everyone else’s did too.

Oh yeah. All scholarship decisions have already been sent out. That’s what they said on their facebook.

I received notice about my scholarship a few weeks ago.

where do you see on your financial aid section about your aid? what box?

VIP->Financial->Financial Aid- “Financial Aid Awards for” And then it has a year box (2011-2012) “at” Campus box (Columbia) “campus”.

Mine right now only has my LIFE scholarship ($5000) and my Thornwell scholarship ($500) listed.

We were at Scholar’s Day this past Saturday. My daughter received the McKissick Scholars Award and an invitation to Capstone. We received the letter telling us that we did not qualify for any financial aid based on the FAFSA submission. However, I spoke to financial aid representative on Saturday and she told me that all incoming students would be eligible for up to a $5500 student loan per year…and that would show up in VIP in the first week of April …not sure if they also send a letter.

schmaz

I’m sure you know that the McKissick also comes with tuition remission to in state levels…it makes USC very affordable…it was less expensive for our d to attend USC than our own in state flagship.

I checked on my aid today on VIP, and still nothing. It shows that we submitted out fafsa, and it shows my scholarship, but that it is so far. I know we must qualify for something, since our efc=0, so I’m just waiting now! Not even sure if usc is my top choice, but right now it is definitely one of the cheapest options, with a program I love. I have the out of state tuition discount, so just waiting on more aid, and if it’s enough, USC here we come!

^The USC Financial Aid Office’s facebook said that they would start posting grants at midnight tonight.

Actually this was posted on their facebook about three hours ago:
“Happy April Fans! Don’t forget that the Summer School Financial Aid Application becomes available on VIP today! Also, we will begin awarding tonight at Midnight, so fans with Grants will see those tomorrow, and fans with Loans will start seeing them on Thursday. By next Saturday (if your FAFSA is complete) you should see all of your Fall/Spring awards!”

And my efc is 0 as well. When I spoke with the financial aid office at Scholars Day, she told me that they awarded money based on EFC and who had turned it in by the deadline, so it looks like you and I will be at the top of the list for any grants that run out.

woohoo awesome! Im excited! I really wish my other schools would hurry up and do the same, the wait is killing me.

I just checked my award.

USC was pretty generous. $16,050 total. That’s with $3500 in Fed. Work Study… The rest grants/scholarships.

It’s nice to know that I won’t have to be taking out any student loans for at least freshman year. College is going to be cheaper for me than high school, middle school, and elementary school were. XD

Ahhhhh. I just checked mine. The only thing it shows is my measly $500 scholarship(but comes with tuition reduction so im not complaining!) and federal pell grant, but thats only 5500 for the year, so that leaves me with a total of 6000 paid for. That leaves me with almost 15000 in loans. Im not sure how this is actually going to happen. Crap.

^Yeah. A lot of my money was state money. I got $1500 in state aid and $5000 in a state scholarship.

Did you get any work study?

Nope, I didnt get any work study and im not sure why…
just the federal pell grant.

Awe. I’m sorry.

Perhaps something will come along your way. =)

They may not have completely finished adding in awards yet either. It said packages wouldn’t necessarily be complete until Saturday.

Ugh yeah, i’m trying to be hopeful, but as every college comes in with their financial aid offer, it basically end up being all the same, about 15-20k in loans a year, which is ridiculous. Atleast usc is still on the cheaper side of things compared to others. I’ve been applying for a bunch of private scholarships, and im hoping that maybe some of those will come through. Every little bit counts.
