Financial Aid Verification Process- Helppp

This year I made a mistake on my fafsa, instead of putting my mothers first name initial I put her middle initial...long story short I happened to check my student account and saw that it was rejected. I fixed it and they said I have to go through the verification process and its right before school starts.

All of the forms and everything they need have been submitted and they are reviewing it as of Aug 9.

My question is how long does this verification process take?
Will this delay the release of my student loan which is normally on the first day of school.

School starts on the 27th and I am getting worried it won't be done in time and if it is I am worried it will delay them releasing my student loan.

Thanks for any help!

The verification process varies from for every school but as long as you’ve turned in all the required documents & paperwork it should take no more than two weeks possibly even shorter. Just check with your financial aid office every couple of days to inquire about it, otherwise be patient. My review took about two weeks & I was just as worried & freaked out as you, just have patience.

I do suggest you contact bursars office or student accounts or whomever sends out the billing statement…they don’t always check your account and it’s status of verification. They will it on the account so claaes will be okay. Don’t assume one department has notified the other.

Thank you both for the info, I will definitely check up and also contact the bursars office

It can take more than 2 weeks for verification to be completed at this time of year, depending on the school.

Yes, that is the important part - to make sure that the billing office knows that you still haven’t received a financial aid decision. Otherwise, they could drop you from all classes.

Thanks for the help. I was told the process is behind one month so now I have to sit and wait for it to come back. I was wondering if there is anybody to call for besides my financial aid office because I keep bothering them just to get updates or anything like that or if I should just sit back and wait.

If they are behind a month, then you really are stuck waiting. I remember being at our walk-in counter before school began, and students were lined up for hours (yes, really) to ask about their aid. I would tell them that we were behind … and every student who came in to ask about their aid meant that many fewer files we could process that day. Sadly, that is the truth.

However, you DO have to make sure you don’t get de-registered if you do not pay (my school did not do that …). Talk to the bursar. Let them know that your aid is about a month behind, and ask what is going to happen.

I guess we picked the right school. DD walked into the FA office Tuesday and a half hour later walked out with her problem solved (needed to sign the Stafford MPN). No long lines.

thanks for the replies. I guess will wait for them.

Also, I know all about those lines…I went to the U of Toledo freshman year and they never sent out a parking permit even though I bought one the first day you were allowed. I along with about 100 students or more had to wait in line. I waited 3 hours to get my parking permit luckily I had no financial aid problems then.

Thanks for the help
