So I just received an email stating that in order for my financial aid request to be further processed i would need to "verify" all my tax information. I understand i need to submit and mail/ fax the required forms given on the website. However, do i also have to send in my 2008 tax forms? Also, does this mean that every school i applied to will require "verfication?"
Thank you.

Is it verification through FAFSA? Assuming it is, yes tax returns (signed) to Maryland. Most schools will want some verification worksheet(s) and tax returns if they don’t use IDOC - each school is different and should notify you of what they want. I too have been chosen for verification.

Look at the “my documents” tab on the testudo financial aid site. You’ll need to set up a SID to get to that info. It will say whether or not you have to send in your 2008 tax forms, and/or all the other required forms. (I’m fairly sure you’ll have to do the entire tax return (including W-2’s).

We were selected by UMD’s site for verification…It’s interesting, for D1 (a rising junior), we had to send in the tax forms and 1 other document…for D2 (incoming freshman), there were several more forms that had to go in.

FYI, when you send it, I’d recommend using the USPS receipt verification option. That way, you can go in via USPS . com and see when it gets delivered. It’s taking UMD a l-o-n-g time to get D2’s financial aid info updated to say that they’ve received the forms, even tho they were delivered 2/25. I’ve verified via email that they’ve received everything, but I still don’t like that the online screen doesn’t show that they’ve received everything. Just want to make sure that everyone in the fin aid process is on the same page!

Good luck!

Testudo has no information on financial aid for my daughter. Under My Documents it says:

“No documents are found for 2009-2010.”

There’s no information under My Awards or My Budget either, just “not yet created” messages. However, My Current Status is:

“Thank you for submitting all the requested documentation needed to award financial assistance. Your file is now complete. You will receive an e-mail when your Award Notification is ready for review or you may continue to check this web site for any changes.”

We did the FAFSA back in January using estimates, but have not filed taxes yet or made FAFSA corrections.

I guess UMD has just not dealt with her account yet. Still hoping for some merit aid, but not optimistic (IS, SAT 1960, WGPA 4.1, CP Scholars, Education major).

Hi - can you tell me what is Testudo? My son couldn’t find this.

Moxy - It is located here - https://www.sis.umd.edu/fastat/

You/your son will need to create a UMD Directory ID/UID (not the same thing you used to check the admission decision status or apply).

duh…we just got an email from the Verification Coordinator…the copy of the taxes I mailed in wasn’t signed. (I remember now that I just reprinted a copy from Turbotax). Guess it will be a while longer until we see the award… another senior moment here! I called the person right away and was able to fax a copy of the SIGNED 1040.
