Financial Aid wait list

A few days ago I found out that I was wait listed on my financial aid for Cornell. I was excited on the prospect of going to cornell, until I found out about my aid decision. Financial aid is a huge factor in my decision, and was hoping if anybody here knows anything about the wait list, also what is the likelihood of getting aid at this point?

Thanks

My d. had been on the wait list three years ago and when she was given acceptance,a full financial aid package was offered (after she had verbally accepted).

@Sheroman2020II

Can you clarify what you mean? Were you accepted to Cornell? Were you waitlisted at Cornell?

I have never heard of being waitlisted for financial aid, which is what you seem to be saying here.

@brantly Yeah, I have already been accepted to Cornell. But my financial aid decision alone was waitlisted. This I think happens to some international students.

It would be nice if anyone can give insight to this.

I never heard of this. Perhaps it’s something that happens just with foreign students. Interesting. What was the exact wording on the communication you received from Cornell about the financial aid waitlist? Can you post it here?

I have never heard of this either. I think you are getting it confused with the admissions waitlist maybe.

@Sheroman2020II You mentioned you were an international student. Cornell does not guarantee to meet the full need of all admitted international students. In most cases, universities simply reject international students for whom they cannot offer full aid. Cornell is making a distinction, and saying they want you but must wait to see if they will have money available (Smith does this with some domestic candidates). I imagine it all depends on how many students offered FA accept their offers. Cornell will then know how much money is left in their FA budget.

@TiggyB62 @brantly I am definitely not confusing it with admissions wait list. I tried posting the letter, but it says it would have to be reviewed before bing

We have placed your name on the waiting list for financial aid awards. We believe that you have much to contribute and that you would benefit from the many opportunities available here. If you are still interested in attending Cornell, we will consider your application for an award again, should one of the candidates to whom we have awarded aid decline our offer.

Please let us know whether or not you wish to remain on the financial aid waiting list by sending a reply email to vls5@cornell.edu by April 21. The $400 enrollment deposit is not required at this time. We will notify you as soon as possible regarding the availability of financial aid. Should an award be offered, you will have two weeks to accept it and pay the enrollment deposit.

I am sorry not to send you more encouraging news at this time. You can expect to hear from us again by early May.

@Sheroman2020II I assume you are an international admit, Financial aid is offered on a limited basis and I am guessing that they will be able to tell you after May 1st when it is known if the international students that have been offered aid will be enrolling. Additional information can be found
