Financial Aid Waitlist

I know all the schools (lived in Princeton for past 10 years and have a family member on staff at one of the boarding schools).PDS is a terrific school…it really is. If you got a full ride there, that’s huge. I don’t think you will get a better deal at Hun, especially that you live close enough to be a day student, I cant see them giving full FA for boarding when the kid is local. I know tons of kids at both and haven’t heard a complaint about PDS.

RACIST? What the heck? Peddie is most definitely NOT racist. We have so much diversity here. Asians, Africans, Indians, you name it…they’re all on this campus. See my lunch table one day…then those people can retract their comments about racism. Besides that, Peddie has a wide range of socio-economic diversity, because of our ability to accept people on FA.

Peddie is most definitely NOT racist, and I honestly wonder who would say that.

And we have so much focus on academics! See the science center…see the update buildings. I don’t think we have that much emphasis on arts and music, to be honest.

any thoughts on getting accepted to first choice with no FA? School told us they would rather accept (S) than outright reject him because of FA. Now what do we do. We don’t need full aid, but we need something to get him there. I feel like they set us up for disappointment. He has a local option that need tuition this week. Also, willing to make a sacrifice to get him through first year, but would have to pull him if no assistance is offered. Don’t know if that is a wise choice??

From what I have read at most school’s websites, if you start out without FA you are not likely to get it later. And in my opinion, if the school outright denied FA, I can’t imagine that they would think differently next year. If you are waitlisted for FA that is more of a gray area.

Laughalittle Woah! Why so defensive? Jk jk , I was just a rumor I heard being spread by summer students.

Um…if someone is calling Peddie racist, I’d ask them to get their eyes checked. Obviously they haven’t been on campus much. I hate to sound rude, but Peddie is one of the most diverse schools I’ve ever seen, so…

Those summer school students need to check their eyes. I don’t know what they’re referring to. You live close enough to Peddie to know that Peddie has diversity and strong academics. Plus, the summer school students haven’t seen the campus with ACTUAL STUDENTS on it. If they can calculate the diversity without the students on campus, I guess they have super powers.

Again, hate to sound defensive, but it bothers me that ignorant summer school students think they know what the Peddie experience is.

If you get accepted but waitlisted for F Aid does that mean the school like you but not enough to give Aid to? Are they just expecting you to Politely go away because they know you can’t pay ? Or would they be willing to offer some aid if you could get hold of a loan or help?

Are they just expecting you to not attend? It’s kind of a confusing message they give. I wonder what proportion of waitlisted FA students do end up attending.

I also wonder how many students they typically accept and waitlist for aid. I’ve heard that if you don’t get awarded aid the first round the chances close to nil for receiving any when all enrollments are in. I’ve also heard that if you don’t get aid the first year you almost certainly won’t get it subsequent years.

Any AOs or FAOs lurking here on the background I’d love to have some input regarding FA

Learnermom, I think there are some possibilities on the table at this point. For example, if a potential new student turns down an offer of FA or the school secures additional funds for FA, they may take you off the WL. Or, if you can tap into your savings or get a loan, and try to meet the school half-way so they only need to cover - say 50% of your needs. I am not sure though about the option that you start this year full pay and have the school make the commitment that they’ll fund you in future years. Usually when the school decides to offer FA to a student, they’d put aside the funding for all 4/3/2 years depending on in which grade he/she joins the school. If they can garantee to fund you in future years, they should be able offer it to you now. I’m not positive about this last scenario though. Other posters who are more knowledgeable can correct me if I am wrong on it.
