Has anyone gone under 12 units (probably only if you're a senior) while on financial aid? I want to go down to 8 and I need to know if my financial aid will be affected. I did call the financial aid office on Friday and a student worker said nothing would change as long as I stayed above 6 units. I'm going to call again on Monday to double check but I'm wondering if anyone else here is doing the same thing.

6 units? o.O
I thought six units was the minimum for summer sessions finaid. You should call again just to be clear.

Financial aid considers you full-time if you take 12 units. anything less than that is not full-time, and therefore you should lose some of your grant money right? Also, you need to be on an approved waiver to be taking anything less than your college’s minimum units. I’ve been approved to take the minimum under the minimum which is 6 units because I work about 60 hours a week. Let me know what they tell you.

I think L&S allows graduating seniors to take as few units as they want to. I was thinking financial aid might work the same way but I’ll post here what I learn on Monday.

I spoke to someone that sounded like a staff person today. She said that I may lose some part of my Pell grant by going under 13 units, but the University can likely replace it with their own grant money. It seemed like this wasn’t the case for all students, but it wasn’t clear why I was an exception.

Well, according to this website, it states 12 units is full-time. So that makes it going under 13, which means you wouldn’t be full-time by what the staffer told you?

[UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office: Undergraduates Maintaining Eligibility](http://students.berkeley.edu/finaid/undergraduates/eligibility.htm)

I’m going to go ahead and say they don’t know what they’re talking about. The minimum for L&S is 13, but you can get that waivered.

The staff person definintely understood that I was going down to 8 units and clearly stated that my financial aid would most likely not be affected. I wrote 13 in my previous post by mistake, but 12 units is indeed the amount for full-time.

im in the same position, senior and need classes that only fillup 10 units…i dont wanna take an additional course…i went to financial office today, they said i would have to pay back 25% of the state grants but the university would cover it with a replacement grant but its not 100% certain…I just don’t wanna risk paying back like $2500 grant money so im signing up for a class to get to 12 units
