Financial Aid with $0 Income

Is it possible to get a full ride if a family has $0 income?

I hope not…if you are getting a degree to make money you should be able to take out and pay back loans like anyone else. I’m sure you will get more grants than the average
student but I would expect some loans along with those.

oh. some schools do give full rides for low income if there generous. my cousin’s go to uva (oos), and they all got full rides through financial aid

If you are instate, Michigan says they try to meet need for in-state students. I don’t believe there are any “full ride” scholarships anymore at UofM. The Shipman used to come close for in-state students and the Shipman is by invitation. I believe now it is $12,000 plus $8000 toward room and board which does not cover even 100% of freshman costs. Need will be met with a student federal direct loans and a variety of grants and scholarships. “Need” is determined by the college based on the FAFSA and Profile information . Michigan does not guarantee to meet need for out of state students or internationals. You will be able to take out a federal direct loans which is $5500 a year for freshman at this point in time.

He is oos and not sure where the zero income is coming from since in a previous post he talked about his sister going to U of M and his parents paying 27 grand on a 40,000 a year income. Out of staters pay through the nose to help with the low in state tuition.

@ riverbirth, I didnt say I had $0 income. I just asked if a family did.

My girlfriend has a full ride + several thousand for anything remotely related with school. In fact she had to turn down some of what was offered. She is instate and has a high gpa. So it’s is possible.

Yes, since Michigan states they try to meet for instate if her need is very high it’s possible. There is a different for in state and out of state.

Yeah I know several people who attend Mich who are instate and get a full ride + extra money, but I meant OOS applicants. I should of added that in my first post.
