Hey everyone,
I sent in everything for Princeton's Financial Aid except my W-2 forms because my parents have filed for an extension to submit income tax returns. I know that it says in the Financial Aid booklet that these forms should be submitted by March 15, 2009. Since I haven't sent them in, should I have expected an email stating that they were waiting for those documents for verification? Should I be worried that they haven't sent me something? Does this mean anything with regards to an admissions decision?!?!?!?! I'm freaking out, please provide insight in any way possible.

they just want it to verify, i would email and let them know your situation. They are nice and helped me relatively quickly. As for your insight to your decisions i dont think anyone can really say becuase it really isn’t too far overdue yet

thanks visionquest…i thought the same thing, perhaps they’re still reviewing and don’t have a need for verification just yet…or maybe they only care about verification after decisions are mailed out, when it really matters.
you helped to calm me, thanks!

My parent called the other day, since we have not been able to send in IDOCs. Our understanding is that (if offered admission) Princeton will issue an estimated financial aid package, with the understanding that adjustments will be made when the rest of the forms are sent in.

sounds great tumbletiger…so you definitely don’t think a notification (or lack thereof) is an indication of an admissions decision?

I wouldn’t read too much into it and as others have said, definitely get in touch with the finaid office

dvictorio, we do estimated returns as well and filed for an extension the year my son was applying. I remember that Princeton based the aid award on the return the prior year, and we faxed them the proof that we filed an extension. So, did your parents submit to Princeton their return for last year?

Also, I have to stress that the financial aid departement at Princeton is staffed with the nicest, most understanding people! We had some problems this year because of the economy, and they were so understanding. So, please call or email them. I know some schools aren’t very people friendly, and practically bite your head off when you call, but no, they aren’t like that.

CMA1 thanks so much for the advice! and for making this much less scary
we haven’t sent in the returns from 2007 because we figured that they would not need to confirm and prove things until after they had given me an estimate and I decide to matriculate…do you think this is accurate? after all they are only bound by their financial aid to me if i accept the offer of admission and so i thought it would not be required that I submit forms that would, in themselves, be estimates because they are from a previous year…everything else on the financial aid app was complete so they could already make an estimate…so you don’t think it means anything that they haven’t followed up with it? hopefully im freaking out for no reason :)

dvictoria, I don’t think he means anything, but I do think you should send in the 2007 return do go along with the Financial Aid application you completed. Just call them and tell them what you gave them so far, and ask what if anything they need faxed to them now. I think they will say the 2007 return which they will use for their estimate. Once the filed 2008 return is faxed to them, they will give you a definite figure. But please communicate with them. They are so nice.
