Financial Aid

Does anyone know when we will hear about financial aid? Web site says mid-late March. When did everyone hear last year? Has anyone heard yet this year? And I am talking about financial aid not scholarships. Thanks!

We are waiting too. We are OOS, so if we don’t receive a lot… then my d can’t go! She REALLY wants to go here. What do you hear about the amount of Financial Aid for need based aid?

My D and I went to the admitted students day yesterday and did meet with a financial aid contact there. He said something about hearing by the 31st about aid. That’s not official, but that’s what we were told.

Well the site says mid to late March, I guess March 31st is about as late as you can get in March. Thanks :-)

Yes, nerbsmom! Maybe they will come out a bit earlier and he didn’t want to commit to a specific date. It would be nice to hear earlier :^)

^^ UNHBUMOM, yes I hope we do hear earlier than that. We’ve heard from all but 2 already (UVM being one).

DS got a letter from financial aid today.

MyLB~ Was it better than expected, expected, or not as much? Any hints?
We are really pulling for UVM to come through with some Financial aid

^MyLB do tell! Was it reasonable? No word yet here …

We have not heard yet either…son was accepted Feb 16. I feel like I read somewhere that notifications would be late March to early April (which conflicts with what it says on their website - mid to late March). I, too, hope they provide strong FA. I have heard that in the past they have not, but they did send a mailing shortly after the admission letter was sent touting all of their strengths, which included increase FA.

Don’t expect much if any financial aid if you are OOS. I have heard somewhere around $2500 is typical, as far as a grant.

I heard March 31, all information would be available on line. I am hoping for MUCH more than $2500. My D will be SO disappointed if that’s it! We are OOS and need a LOT of grants to go there… hopefully we will get good news on Thursday.

^ onefortheteam, thanks for the update! Keeping our fingers crossed that we will get good news as well.

UVM is not a private school, it is a state school and they rely on tuition from OOSers who most pay full tuition, to subsidize those instaters. Not sure where you are getting ideas of getting alot of aid from UVM!

I went onto UVM student financial aid calculator. I put in my D’s info including SAR figures. It came back saying that I would get approx. $20K in scholarships and grants (not loans). So, that’s why I’m hoping for so much. That calculator is on the UVM website… you can google it, and it uses the 2011 - 2012 costs for tuition, etc.

I, too, am hoping for a decent amount of aid as well for my D based on the estimator. The wait is brutal. I called Financial Aid today and they said that FA decisions would be mailed by the end of this week. We will also receive an email notification that we can check online.

OK - I can’t take it anymore! Haha. I’m hoping for about what they “said” in the financial aid calculator - but am nervous about what others have said about little aid to OOS. Has anyone heard anything about them taking away money the second year? I believe I saw a few threads about that! Good luck Mylohlily!

onefortheteam … I don’t see any FA calculator on the site? Will you PM me how to find it?

I don’t know how to do PM so here’s the link: https://uvm.studentaidcalculator.com or try this one: Unknown Address;

Good luck! I hope it helps. I’m not sure if it’s good to be so excited about how much it is telling me… or if it’s just getting my hopes up and they will be crushed when we actually find out how much we are supposed to be getting!

$2500 seems so low. My daughter is instate for our state uni (NH), and she got $2500 per semester for a grant and UNH is much less expensive. UVM is touting their increased FA, so I would think they could do better than that seeing as they are so much more expensive. DS has a Presidential Scholarship, but we will need more than that.
