Tigers, its strong points are its small classes; friendly and nurturing atmosphere; strong business, creative writing, music, education, communications and graphic design programs; and beautiful campus and facilities.

Just a follow up. Sent deposit to Susquehanna today. Despite no response from a request to review merit scholarship money, it remained son’s top choice. I do not disagree. The school should be thankful for enthusiastic students, engaged profs and a very pretty campus. If they had to rely on admissions for their image, the university would likely have closed long ago. Absolutely no response to any inquiry, no matter the subject. Very irritating. Fortunately as the education begins, admissions fades away. Appropriate.

Singledad, congratulations on the end of your search!
It is disappointing and amazing how poor experience with Admissions personnel was, especially given how strong a candidate your son is. It reminds me of some of my experiences with HR departments at some places I worked----having a smile is not enough if you do not do your actual job.

Our deposit is in as well! Daughter is so excited to be a student at SU!

Swamom, best wishes to !

Hope more matriculating students explain why Susquehanna rather than their other acceptances.

singledad and swatmom - congrats on the SU decision - we were quite impressed when we visited in the fall.

singledad - I am very surprised to hear you did not receive responses from SU admissions. I e-mailed Chris Markle, the head of admissions in the fall after we visited, as did my son, and we both got immediate responses. I also spoke with our regional rep - no difficulty reaching him either. Very puzzling. Chris Markle seemed very receptive to feedback - have you tried reaching him directly?

Rockvillemom,

Last mail went to Chris Markle, son’s admissions counselor, director of financial aid,

and chair of creative writing. Only response was from chair of creative writing, who has been consistant with communication and support throughout this process. I really do not care what their answers are, pro or con, to my request. Just some type of feedback would be nice. Son’s admissions counselor, in particular, has been a no show since the interview last fall. However, it is what it is and my focus is now getting son ready for what will hopefully be some of the most memorable and rewarding times in his life.
Congratulations Swatmom!!!
Tigers, I posted some thoughts on your other thread. Chances are you have read similar posts already.
Thanks to all for the congratulations.
Now, hopefully, some much needed and deserved R&R for all parents who have spent the last 2+ years of their lives involved in this process. By the way, my daughter is a HS senior next year. Oh, boy!

Singledad, I suppose the good news is that the Chair of Creative Writing will have a major impact on your son’s next 4 years, while the others will not. It is still a very odd situation and I understand your frustration.

At a school which is not very selective, but which is well regarded for creative writing, you would expect the admissions people to go all out and the department head to be hard to reach. He or she seems to be an outstanding educator.

I wish you and Swatmom relaxing Summers. The Fall may bring some short term challenges–it is the rare freshman anywhere who does not have some issue surface, with a roommate or dorm neighbor, homesickness, etc–but those issues pass and I wish your children a smooth transition.
