I'm really worried about applying ED to GWU.
My mother, a single parent, does not make much money. Thus our EFC is something like 5,000 or 4,000 dollars (because me and my irish twin sister will be in school at the same time)

How much will GWU help in my situation if I apply ED? Nothing at all? My mom wont even be able to pay EFC, let alone 60k.

Anyone in a similar situation and can shed some light?

Don’t be too worried over financial aid, GW is very generous with financial aid. I too felt burdened by applying ED1, but I used the common app and there is a statement in the early decision agreement form that says:

“Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and
be released from the Early Decision commitment.”

You can still decline GW if cannot afford it. I knew I could never afford GW without the financial aid. My mother is also a single parent and I have an EFC of $0, but I’ll be entering GW as a freshman with financial aid totaling a little over $56,000 for every year I attend, as long as I maintain my grades. Granted, $7,000 of it is in loans, the rest grants and awards, I still received enough that my mother doesn’t have to worry about tuition. There are also plenty of third-party scholarships you can apply to to supplement what financial aid GW gives you.

Thanks so much! that makes me feel so much better. My mom and I have decided that we could make it work, if we stretch every penny and every loan and every friends friend, if they give at least 30k in Finaid. Thank you so much :)

Btw, if you dont mind me asking, what was your GPA, SAT/ACT (preferably ACT), Class rank and major ECs like?

I knew if he did not get financial aid that my son would not be able to attend. I am also a single mother and between scholarships, grants and aid from the school my son will only have less then $5000 in student loans. George Washington is very generous with the aid they offer.

My son also had a 3.8 gpa 28ACT top 10% of class and EC were student government, varsity sports, service organizations, job, yearbook, newspaper.

My best advice is that if you really want to go make sure that GW knows that they are your top choice school. Get to know your area admission rep. Visit the campus and make sure you interview. Good luck
