Financial Aid?

Hello CC,

I was wondering if Notre Dame was generous with financial aid?
My family's income is about 40k, but we own two houses. :( I also have a sibling in an OOS school so my family is tight on money now.

Notre Dame is my top choice, but I don't think my family will able to pay very much. Do they give a lot of free money like grants and such? (not so much like loans)

Also, my sibling pays sort of a lot for the OOS school, 20k alone just on tuition and there are other expenses such as dorm, ect. I wonder does that matter…? Sorry I’m new to this.

I found Notre Dame to be far more generous than any other school that offered me financial aid. They required a great deal of documents, and examined the exact financial situation, awarding me a good deal more than I would have been given simply going off my EFC.

As for your case, it’s hard to say how the assets will come into play, but I imagine how much those houses have an impact will be dependent upon their value and if your parents owe anything on them.

And yes, your sibling’s college expenses are taken into account.

My parents have owned their house for a very long time, so the equity was counted very heavily (it appears) in my fin aid application. I did not receive much aid, was offered mostly loans even tho I have sibs in college, too. I had lots of scholarship offers from other schools, but they were merit-based which doesn’t happen at ND. The practice EFC calculation online seems to be pretty accurate when trying to figure out if you might get aid. ND is still worth the investment.

Thanks for the responses. My sibling’s financial package was disappointing because they expected my family to pay 30k/yr. However, it is a oos public school.
ND is certainly worth the investment but I hope it is a bit more generous then my sister’s considering my income is only 40k.
