Are most colleges blind when considering financial aid... I am applying to many upper tier schools and ivies... arent most of them.

I probably will not get financial aid... my parents are fairly well off. But if I put not applying to financial aid... will I not get merit based aid?

The state schools I have applied to, and been accepted... how do I know if they are giving me money? Do I need to apply for money... do they tell me, do they tell me when I decide to go there?

I am very confused about money!

sorry... I didnt even realize their was a financial aid thread... still... any help?

You'll have to fill out a form called the FAFSA detailing your famliy's financial situation (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) and some schools will have additional forms for need-based aid.

Some universities are need blind, some are not; it should say on the university website.

Some merit based scholarships will be open to everyone, and every applicant is automatically considered. Other merit based scholarships will have an application form that may invovle essays or teacher recommendations.

I'm not entirely sure when the entire financial aid package is usually given to the student, but you will know probably around the same time you find out whether you were accepted.
