financial aid??

just curious what the financial aid is like here. i've wanted to go to st. john's for quite some time, but i've sort of held back from applying because it's 40,000 a year and...i'm probably only going to be able to save maybe 5,000 a year for tuition (my parents can't afford to help)...leaving a huge balance...so anyone that goes there, or is familiar w/this school, is it possible that i could afford it?

hi! I have applied [sent in all my stuff last week] to the NM campus - glad to meet someone who is also applying!:)
I've heard the financial aid is really good. i hope it is!:)

pretty cool. i'm applying next fall for spring 2007 tho. are you a senior in high school? i didn't have the grades in high school to apply, i'm at community college for now. i've heard the financial aid is good as well, but the amount i can afford to pay is not much when the balance is 40,000. but i shall see. what attracted you to st. john's the most? for me it was the books...i'm such a nerd for books.

the great books [of couuurse], and also the classroom dynamic/interaction. plus, i love the idea of not having to declare a major and focus on one thing for four years, but really become well-rounded in all areas.:) i will find out in 2ish weeks - i am so nervous!

well, all the best of luck to you!

you too, nice to meet you!:)

I went on a tour there and they do say they meet 100% of need. But apply early to get the best packages. Check out the collegeboard's statistics for the college under finaid to get more info.

What about international aid?

St. John's does not give out any merit-based scholarships. The endowment goes to those who need it the most. It is a very good idea, in my opinion. Good luck to you all!

Also, if you can't get all the aid you want, you could think about taking a year off to work and save. Maybe you could do it before your Junior year. Some people do that anyway to relax and get their lives together before continuing with the program.

I am going to St. John's in NM fall of 06 (woot woot! so soon!). I didn't get any financial aid, because I have just enough to manage it.

I haven't heard much about international aid, but you can call one of their offices. They are very friendly and I am sure they can give you an answer in minutes. Don't be scared, just call up there. I have on a few occasions.
