I know someone who was just accepted to American but wasn’t given nearly enough to pay for it. Is this common, I think the total package was worth 25,000, including loans.

Looks like a good package from our vantage point. D hardly got anything.

Not “nearly enough to pay for it” doesn’t tell us much. For some, $25,000 would be fantastic, for others, insufficient. You can’t evaluate someone’s financial aid package out of thin air. Is the offer inadequate because AU is not meeting the student’s full need, as calculated from his financial aid submissions (and I don’t think AU promises to meet full need, anyway), or because the family cannot come up with its calculated contribution (e.g., has not saved for college and/or has a lifestyle that does not leave any current income available for tuition)? Many students feel they are able to attend AU with the financial aid packages they are offered, certainly some feel otherwise and will not attend. But I don’t believe AU has a reputation like NYU, which has become rather notorious for offering terrible financial aid.

that would’ve been awesome to get 25,000, i got about 14 after everything. idk what i expected but after getting accepted ED the full cost of college has hit me square in the face and has forced me to grow up very quick, its a good experience thus far, but very expensive.
