I'm kind of freaking out after seeing that so many other people have already received their financial aid and I haven't yet. I filed my fafsa around Feb. 27.

Yeah, everything of mine was recieved and shown up online by the 19th. (I had sent it in before the 15th.) My package is still not available even though it’s been 2 wks and I know most people got theirs within a few days. Anyone else have a similar problem? I’m going to call Tuesday if they haven’t updated it by then.

Did either of you receive yours yet?

We’re in the same boat and waiting to find out if we need to fly to AZ for a campus visit. I was told they are still processing those who met the priority deadline. It’s a stressful waiting game, for sure.

Nothing! I’ll be sure to post when mine is processed. I’m going to call them today to see if I can get any new information. I hope this doesn’t mean I’ll be getting less aid, though I don’t think I should.

I just called. She told me I had been cleared for processing (they had to process some citizenship documentation) yesterday and I should get my package soon. I asked her if I would still be eligible for maximum aid since I had submitted on time. She told me I should, if they had funds available. At first I was happy that I should get it soon, but now that I hung up, I’m confused. Why was I cleared yesterday when it showed up cleared on my CASH page over 2 weeks ago? And whyy did she say “if they had funds available”? Shouldn’t I recieve the same consideration as all those who met priority? I’m tempted to call again, but I might wait until I actually get my package. The lady on the phone sounded a little confused anyways.

Uggghh! That worries me. My D’s wasn’t processed because of a glitch on their end that wasn’t discovered until the SECOND time I called (which was two weeks after the first time I called). It’s still not showing that the documents have cleared.

I asked the same question about being eligible since we met the priority deadline and the person I spoke with said yes. I think I may call again. I don’t want to be impatient, but I keep hearing conflicting things from other people who have called.

mistaked…you may have gotten your information in before the priority deadline, but it does not mean you application will get equal consideration over earlier applications. It is just like any high demand item…think concert tickets, you can still get in line after FAFSA opens on January 1, 2012 and before the priority deadline, but they can still run out of funds that matter…ie, grants, before they get to the last person in line. Financial aid can be very first come, first served.

Oh no! That must be incredibly frustrating…I hope everything gets sorted and works out! I keep hearing conflicting things too, which is why I’m not going to bother recalling on my part. I’ll just wait and hope for the best. If something looks off, I’ll call again. Let me know how it goes!

Collegeshopping - I thought that’s how it worked for people who submitted their stuff AFTER March 15- that they could still be eligible for financial aid, but it depended on availability and funds. It seemed that everyone who submitted it prior to that got full consideration.

OK, so I just called for the third time, and nothing had been done to her file. The person I spoke with this time said nothing had been forwarded for processing, as the last person told me. She assured me she was emailing Quality Assurance right now to make sure it gets processed. I understand they are overwhelmed right now, but I don’t know what to believe. So frustrating.

I feel for you- it seems as if your situation is being improperly handled. I’d recommend you follow up with an email to the finaid office and request that it be sent to Quality Assurance, just so you can be completely sure. You’ll also have a record of having sent it. Best of luck!

Be sure you just lay it all out without judgment or attitude (not in anyway implying you would…just a reminder that you are dealing with a “gatekeeper”) She helped me last year in regard to a merit scholarship that was not funded correctly. Before I got to her it was like monkeys in a barrel.

Thanks, collegeshopping! I will do that. I was absolutely polite. I’m in a deadline-related industry and know what it’s like to be working as hard as you can and have people coming at you from all directions. I just don’t want my D’s financial aid to slip through the cracks without my having followed up.

Thanks to you, too, mistaked!

I just received my financial package this monday! They sent me an email.

So excited that all my D’s information has been processed! Thanks collegeshopping for that email address and advice. She was very helpful!

Now, just praying something good comes our way. :)

Good to know things are working out, UTMom! I just received my financial aid package.

Out of curiosity, has anyone received financial aid who knows their EFC? Mine was around 6500 and I received only 3000 in grants/scholarships and another 3500 in subsidized loans. Just wondering if this is “normal” or not. It’s a tad lower than I would have liked, for sure!

I received my financial aid package and I had an EFC of 0. I got $20,600 in grants and scholarships, but I also received a Cockrell scholarship for $6,000/year. So $26,600 with an estimated COA of $25,900.

Are you out of state?

Just checked daughter’s account. They were very generous with LOANS but no scholarships. :(

Maybe scholarships have not been added yet?

mistaked
You should go to financial aid forum and read discussions about finaid in California and other states. I never knew we were so lucky in Texas until I started reading about other states.

WHATDAMCFUDGE

It will be adjusted. You cannot have finaid higher than COA. Unless, of course, you are in some kind of special program with extra classes and your tuition/COA is higher than normal.

You are welcome! Good Luck!
