You may be already, but I would encourage you guys to try to talk with SFS about your award if your family can’t really meet what they sent you. As far as I know, you should think of it as a starting bid. At this point, what do you have to lose? I think it’s supposed to be more of a dialogue. Good luck!

http://www.wellesley.edu/admission/finaid/contacus

I just spoke with SFS, who verified all the information is in. I was told that some students can see the button and some cannot - they are still working on it.

Well, it’s in.

That was by far the worst financial aid award I’ve gotten, at the school I expected to be the most generous. I will try to appeal, but I’m honestly crushed they would calculate it that way–it makes their claims to be affordable seem like a joke. I am much, much more likely to got to Smith with merit, or Scripps (which expected my sister to pay 1/3 of what Wellesley wants us to).

I love Wellesley, and this is a little bit heartbreaking. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to resort to ice cream.

I’m so nervous… Would you guys be willing to share ballpark numbers? (e.g. approximate annual family income, what Wellesley asked you to pay, etc.)

My FA box is still empty too! I am freaking out! I’m pretty sure I sent in all forms, except for the latest tax income form because my parents just filed taxes a few weeks ago. What should I do? If I didn’t get all forms in on time, does that mean I’m not eligible for FA? Thanks!

@unicorn, I talked to them yesterday after realizing that I was missing something (and totally freaking out about it) and the girl on the phone said that it shouldn’t hurt my financial aid at all, just delay the notification. Just call them and see if you’re missing anything.

@economiss, thank you so much!

Does anyone know how to accept the financial award that Wellesley gives you? Thanks!

Wellesley expects me to pay around 50k tuition. This does not, of course, include the loans and work study that they also expect me to participate in.

The offers I have been getting from the UCs are almost 20k cheaper and have Regents scholarship benefits, so needless to say I’m leaning more towards their direction.

@terizent - I had a friend in a similar situation. If the money is the only differentiating factor and you’d attend Wellesley otherwise, let the financial aid office know of your regents scholarship (Congrats btw!). Wellesley may be able to match the $$. As far as regents benefits are concerned, W already has 4 years guaranteed housing and the W network is amazing.

I’ve been flipping through the course catalog W sent me… I’m going to be so heartbroken if I don’t get enough money to go :(

I got my admit packet today and they’re going to pay for my visit (travel and everything) to Open Campus!!! Hoping this means good things as far as financial aid.

@economiss - I hope that means you’re attending Spring Open Campus! It’s a great way to see the campus and a little preview of what your life could be like for the next four years!

I definitely will!!

It makes me nervous that they have taken down all my financial aid stuff from my portal, even the list of requirements. I was missing some things (it’s complicated since my parents are both self-employed) and had to fax them on Friday and the girl on the phone said it would take 1-2 business days and I got an email saying that they received my documents. I’m just paranoid. Hoping I’ll get notified today!!!

to everyone who didn’t get enough aid from wellesley–it doesn’t necessarily mean all private schools will be that expensive. scripps gave me a little more than twice the aid that wellesley did!

D also received substantially more aid from other private colleges. Wellesley is expecting us to pay twice our EFC, which is also twice what their net price calculator says.

We checked http://mycollegeprice.com too and it shows Wellesley is much higher than was predicted for our financial situation. (D was waitlisted at Scripps so we can’t compare that offer, unfortunately. Congrats, lynnekeshet!)

We plan to ask Wellesley to review our aid–it can’t hurt. Fortunately, D has some other good options if Wellesley does not come through.

Wellesley EFC is a problem. FAFSA calculated our EFC as $37k, but according to Wellesley, I am a full pay student. Fin-Aid = $0 from Wellesley. Because I have merit offers from similar colleges, this will be a difficult decision.

So nervous. I should be hearing back from them by the end of next week. I’m fantasizing that it’s taking awhile because they’re writing all the zeroes in my offer ;)

But seriously, I don’t think my nerves will survive this.
