financial aid?

Hi. so, I recently received my financial aid package and it's definitely not gonna be enough.

I was willing to appeal, but I was just wondering how generous they use to be, because I sort of need them to improve my award significantly.

does anybody has any previous experience?
I see they are famous for being generous, but I also see people that strangely received no aid, so I was just a little worried.

tks in advance!

As a friend of mine pointed out to me when I visited, Wesleyan is broke… in the economic crisis, people who used to give to the school kind of stopped, people stopped being able to afford the college so they had to give more in aid, and so now they have no money. Often schools will let you appeal the financial aid, but the package will not change a significant amount - trust me, I’ve tried with two other universities. Best of luck to you!

wow, no high expectations, then.
thanks lexieam!

lexieam, I am confused… this is the Swarthmore board, what does that have to do with Wesleyan’s financial state?

OP, go ahead and appeal. But I can tell you that my D appealed this spring at Swat, and got nothing extra at all. She had better packages from comparable schools. Appealing did work at one of her other schools (the one she will be attending in the fall).

You are late to be dealing with this, as the deadline has passed to deposit at another school.

I’m sorry, I realized after that I had written the wrong name. The story remains the same it should just have been Swarthmore. 3AM is not a good time for my mental status! And my assumption is this is a transfer applicant or a waitlist applicant who was accepted!

Um, Swarthmore is not “broke.” But like every other school, it adheres to a budget. And Swarthmore has, over the years, been prudent in the way it spends its money. I’d say the Board of Managers and the Administration know what they’re doing. You don’t get to be Swarthmore any other way.

I think they meet all demonstrated need?
