For those students at Pomona-
I have heard the college is very generous with Finaid. Have you found this to be true? I am worried because I filed FAFSA but got an EFC that was very very high (higher than total cost)!! My mom doesn't make very much (she is a teacher) and my dad is out of the country. Can I expect to gey any or much aid? I don't want to dip into my mom's retirement, which the FAFSA is expecting me to do. (I know retirement funds are exempt, but my mom hasn't put them in those funds :( ) Thanks!

According to the Pomona website:

Financial Aid is awarded strictly on the basis of financial need; the College does not offer merit scholarships.

It appears that if your EFC is higher than the cost of attendance, then you won't qualify for any financial aid.

I may be wrong, but that is how I understand it. Sorry

Any Pomona students have input?

I am low income and I pretty much have a full ride. They even give me money in return. I hear that some people that are well-off even get a little financial aid.

I actually had an EFC higher than the total cost too, and I still got financial aid. They don't base it on the FAFSA as much as the CSS profile.
They are usually pretty good at helping out so don't worry too much about it

Ok thanks a lot!

what about for internationals?

the process is different for international students, here's a link for info: www.pomona.edu/financialaid/international/

is it much harder to enter while applying for aid? What kind of grades do I need?

Pomona is need blind, so it won't make it harder to get in if you need aid. You do need good grades, though. I imagine 3.7 or so, but it's just a guess.

wow, even for internationals? Are there any more need blind? None right, other then the Big Six.

Wellesley College is need blind and will award finaid to international students.

according to edupass.com, "the smart student guide for studying in the usa," wellesley is on the list of schools that offered financial aid to 15-49 international students (it doesn't say if that was for a certainclass or what), so yay for wellesley, but we're talking about pomona, not wellesley, right? pomona isn't on the list anywhere of schools that award aid to more than 15 students. even if that list is wrong, we learned in tour guide training that getting financial aid as an international is verrrrrrry competitive. obv. you can still apply and just see what your offer is...my advice would be to just research/contact each school you're interested in to find out their int. fin aid policies, since all these messages might be confusing you.

Ah... sigh... everyone is telling me the same thing; fin aid for internationals are verrrry competitive. More competitive then getting into Yale? ^^ It's my dream school.

hey, don't be discouraged! two of my international friends are on financial aid...i guess you can understand why i don't ask them how much exactly, so it's by no means impossible to get aid.
