My d got into the scholars program and is thrilled. But everyone tells us that UofMD is terrible on the financial aid-- that there is not much money available. Has anyone else heard this, or is it a false rumor?

it is true if you believe the princeton review. Maryland, if i remember, ranked among the worst in financial aid...

Yes- it seems that way. We hear of a lot of people who get in thinking it will be less expensive because it is thier state school and they really want to go, but end up going elsewhere--places that cost twice as much because with the financial aid it turns out to be alot cheaper! That's really sad........

yah, i have a 1400 EFC and got into the business and scholars program. I know they will give me something but how much...?? we will see in about a month

My daughter was also accepted into UMCP Scholars program. We were offered basically zero financial aid. She is going to attend UCLA which costs twice as much, however we were offered only some student and parent loans there.

wow. i just received my award letter. cost of attendance for out of state students is 33k according to their tuition costs, room & board, transportation expenses, book expenses, etc. my efc is around 10k, and all they gave me were 2 loans totaling 5k -__-

does this make sense?!
33-5 = 28

even though my efc is somewhat high, there's no way my family can pay 10k a year, and i am not pulling out a loan for 33k every single year. you must be kidding me. bye maryland. i am never attending your school.

Maryland sucks for finaid..they expect me to pay more than Wharton is offering me..

i think departmental scholarships come out tomorrow. Someone said first week of april and tomorrow is monday and las monday they gave out Finacial aid. I hope they give out some...

did you have to apply for departmental scholarships?? I never heard anything about scholarships from college of chemical and life sciences- anyone know anythinga bout that?

My son received his engineering departmental scholarship offer Friday. He did not have to make a special application.

did he get it in the mail or was it online?

how much was itif you don't mind me asking?

Do they give them for education?

i didn't find anything on the business site about a deptartmental scholarship but i thought they would give them out. I hope. I'll definately live without any more money. UMD has given me 7000 in combination of grants and scholarships.

cheapseats,

The departmental scholarship came in the mail on Friday. It was for 2K per year.

I have no idea which departments give them. Mabye it is only the engineering department? I really don't know.

Good luck to all.
