Financial Aid

Has anyone got their aid yet? I've been checking online everyday, even though it said April 1st. Here's a link.

<a href="http://www-sfa.chubb.ohiou.edu/awardletter%5B/url%5D">http://www-sfa.chubb.ohiou.edu/awardletter</a></p>

I tried and it said "access is denied from a nonsecure port" whatever that means. So yeah, obviously I haven't gotten my aid letter yet either. Although I did get them from ASU and UP yesterday, so it should probably be coming soon.

I'll try again on a different computer, maybe it will have a "secure port." (what the heck is that anyway? my computer is as secure as any other...?)

Edit: it worked the second time, after I closed firefox and tried again (weird). But they don't have 06-07 up yet, hopefully that will be coming soon!

Okay, the site has changed, but they still don't have aid up yet. I'm getting anxious.

This "Gateway Grant" thing could net me some money, with my 29 ACT and high need. I'll let you guys know how they fill my need.

I think they're getting ready...

Just wondering, are you out of state? If you are, then you should also qualify for the Trustee award, which is $4500 off for having an ACT of 25+. Good luck!

yea I have been told that they dont even start preparing aid awards til the beginning of april and to make it worse i have a scholarship interview apr. 1st so I prolly wont get my offer til around apr. 20th which is really pushing the may 1st deadline

I already got 6750 automatically for my 29 ACT, that's including the gateway award and the trustee award, as well as the dining room discount. Just looking for some more grants as I have need.

I got my aid today. Checked it online.

The only thing they gave me was a Stafford loan. They filled 44% of my need, although 72% in merit scholarships.

Looks like they really didn't want me/didn't think I wanted to enroll. How didn't I get a University Grant? Aren't my stats high enough (3.65 GPA, 29 ACT)? Do I not have need?

Guess i'm not going there next year. I'll appeal it though.

Aw. Yeah, appeal. I would've thought your stats were high enough.

Maybe they just wanted to see if you were serious??

my current aid offer got me about 15k(im out of state so thats like half off) so unless i make templeton i will probably be going to xavier or depauw

How much aid a school gives you isn't based on how much they want you - but on how much money the institution has to give you based on your need.

By the way, I got my aid in the mail today. It was basically a letter saying "take it or leave it", with a reply notice. Other schools always ended with "We welcome any questions or concerns you may have".

Yeah, I've heard OU isn't as generous with their aid as other schools, which is really too bad. I haven't gotten that letter yet (maybe I should go check the mail) but is it possible to call the financial aid office anyway and ask if there are any other options? Or was it pretty clear that they don't want any appeals?

Im pretty sure you could arrange an appeal but im not so sure on how successful it would be. My recruiter at Depauw had me fax my other scholarship offers to him and then he appealed my merit award and got me a full scholarship so I know the appeals actually work at some schools

Wow! You keep on reeling in those full scholarships, nice!

I'm not sure how much this will help, since it's pretty much all loans, but...
<a href="http://www-sfa.chubb.ohiou.edu/download/forms/2007AddtFinAssist.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www-sfa.chubb.ohiou.edu/download/forms/2007AddtFinAssist.pdf</a></p>

I did get my letter too, and it was pretty sparse on aid other than merit scholarships. At the bottom of the form it says, in small print of course, that OU is not responsible to meet 100% need. Which sucks, but that doesn't mean they won't bump up your aid more. Maybe ask why you didn't qualify for a grant, too? There might have been a mistake? I mean, looking at the graph, you should have even gotten a Gateway scholarship for $1500 with your ACT.

Anyway, good luck!

I did, I got the gateway scholarship and trustee award, as well as a loan (stafford). But that doesn't even fill half my need.

yea for me it was all about picking schools that i knew would give me money.. im really anxious about the ou scholarship though b/c it kinda determines the next 4 years of my life

You had your interview already, right? When do they notify you, before the 1st obviously...

the lady said she will try and get decisions mailed before easter

Good luck - OU is an incredible place.
